I recently bought a truck that I have been driving around for the last few weeks and neglected to notice that the TV cable is not connected to the carb. I ordered the little bracket to be able to attach it to the carb as soon as i noticed this but has this been really bad for my tranny to have been driving around like this? I have noticed it does shift slowly out of first gear but i had up until now assumed it was LSS(long spring syndrome) and the tv cable just needed to be adjusted correctly.

The TV cable on 700r4's absolutely needs to be adjusted properly, or you a fawking up that tranny but good.
Go here and read everything they say: http://www.tvmadeez.com/article/index.php.
And the most relevant part??
""The TV cable used with the 4L60 transmission should not be thought of an automatic downshift cable. The TV cable used on the 4L60 controls line pressure, shift points, shift feel, part throttle downshifts and the detent downshifts. The function of the cable is similar to the combined functions of a vacuum modulator and a detent cable."
btw the 4L60 is the later name of the 4L60, not to be confused with the 4L60E. :D

I actually have read that but would you say it is more or less damaging to have the TV cable not connected at all rather than having it connected and not adjusted properly? I wont be able to connect it until I have the bracket for the carb for it to attach to. I have to drive it to work, because i don't have another vehicle at this time. Am i totally destroying this transmission driving this truck as is?

you will burn up the 3-4 without the cable connected. the cable is just like the modualtor on the 400 and the 350 and the EPC on the 4l60e it raises line pressure and shift points based on load

would it be bad to have the cable to tight?i just put a jasper tranny in my 92 blazer. at first it would not down shift. so i made the cable tighter. still nothing. then on the 4th or 5th try i got it to downshift.
i ask this only cause when i drive slow it shifts real quick. i always thought when the tv cable is tighter. it makes the shift points longer. no matter if drive like gradma or go WOT

If the cable is not connected or adjusted correctly will equal trans DEATH!
It will not allow pressure rise in the trans and should make for some really quick shift points.
Bottom line. When the throttle pedal is at full throttle, there should be no more travel left in the TV cable.

on the 700r4, it should go from 1st to 2nd at 15mph and from 2nd to 3rd at 25mph as a general rule. any sooner and you arent getting enough line pressure and WILL burn it up. ask me how i found that out.

drive in 3rd gear until you get the bracket
This does not rise the pressure properly, although it does keep the converter from overheating if your TCC is malfunctioning.
DO NOT DRIVE THE TRUCK UNTIL YOU FIX THE TV CABLE ISSUE!
