: Plug for Forward Air

After trying to deal with UPS ground, and Fedex ground shipping for a large parcel (front part of the D90 rollcage), I gave up and headed over to Forward Air.

I had heard they ship big stuff relatively cheap (like axles and such). Sooo, here is the scoop.

They usually have locations near large airports, check their website for locations. They will ship stuff from their location to other Forward Air locations only. You pick it up when it arrives (they call you). You have 3 days to pick it up from arrival, or they charge you a storage fee. Cost is based on weight. Most items they ship are on a palate (sp?), although I just packaged the rollbar in some cardboard and a bunch of tape. Cost to go from Houston to Boston for this rollbar piece was $48 (basically their minimum cost), which was much less than conventional freight. If shipped on a weekday, delivery to the next FA terminal is usually by the next day (essentially overnight). They have very late hours (ours is open til 9:30pm for dropoffs, and will ship overnight even at that time to most terminals). They have weekend hours as well (Sat mornings, and Sunday afternoons).

Anyway, all in all a great service that I think is under utilized by our hobby. I have no affiliation, but wanted to pass on the word.
