If I make my crossmember removable will I be able to install
a later tlc 4 speed trans in place of the 3 speed without pulling the eng? I am putting the eng in with the 4 speed bell housing
first because I am waiting for t/c parts.
thanks.

I am guessing you are talking V8, so if you are talking about the rear t-case crossmember, you will need to move it back about 3-4 inches when you put the 4 speed(Toyota) in the truck, same goes for an sm465 and sm420. so, yes you will need to move the mounts for the cross member back once the longer tranny is in.

thanks for the reply. I am not putting v8 just a later year f eng 1973 with a 75 tlc 4 speed into a 65 fj40 and was told that I can't even service the park brake because the crossmember is in the way so I would think that I couldn't put the trans in after the eng is in. I am waiting for some parts to hook my 3 sp t/c to the 4 speed trans but wanted to get a head start and set eng in first.
thanks
