: Hunting season..... getting closer
mgoodman 07-17-2007, 10:51 AM It's getting closer to that time of year.
Bow season in CO is a little over a month away, rifle seasons follow.
Who here is hunting this year, what, where, when, using what?
Me -- drew deer tags up near Kremmling CO. Family of 4, my two boys, wife and I... two doe tags (boys), two buck tags.
My youngest boy turns of age for big game the day before opening season on Oct. 20th.
I picked him up a single shot New England arms 30-06 and dropped a 3x9 leopold scope I had on it.
My oldest boy uses a 30-06 remington 742 semi-auto, leopold scope (3x9)
My wife uses a 270 w/ iron sights. She dropped her 1st buck 2 years back with a .45 cal muzzle loader at about 65 yards. A really nice 5x5 muley running about 240 lbs.
me.. this year I am carrying the S&W .44... working with the boys more than anything and hoping they get their first deer.
What are your plans?
Mike
afroman006 07-17-2007, 11:06 AM I like Texas, I get to hunt game animals 8 months out of the year. It starts with whitewing dove season in the Rio Grande Valley the first weekend of september and ends with spring turkey in early may. Scattered in there are deer, fall turkey, pigs, rabbits, ducks, geese, quail, sometimes nilgai and whatever else is somewhat legal to shoot. I hunt almost everything in the state, minus all those wierd ass birds like snipe and rails.
My main weapons are a pre-64 model 70 .30-06 and a browning gold hunter 3 1/2.
mgoodman 07-17-2007, 11:25 AM Yes.. lots of hunting in TX if you have the access to the land.
I did a pig hunt outside San Antonio, was a blast!
Got land? I'll come and hunt with you!

blkntancj 07-17-2007, 02:46 PM I drew for archery Elk in Unit 15 (north part of the Gila NF) Sept 11-18 and archery Deer down near Corona, NM (good deer area) for Sept 1-22 AND Jan 1-15. Same as last year, had good hunts in both places. Got a small bull elk, saw alot of deer but never got a shot. I'm itching to get out in the woods.
DavidVanVorous 07-17-2007, 04:16 PM Not going after big stuff until I get my Shiloh so its upland birds (grouse, phesants and turkeys) fer me this year. Annoyingly enough my new toy is due right around the time I have to reup for MT licensures and the seasons are closed (Feb).

DavidVanVorous 07-23-2007, 09:04 AM Had a change in plans by the wife this weekend... her elder bro wants to come out to MT from CA for deer/elk so it looks like I'll be out after white tails (maybe muley) or possibly elk. Iffen all he wants is deer then I'll be out with one of my .50 cal ML otherwise itll be the 8x57.

SCOTTS_4X 07-25-2007, 08:51 PM the first of september marks the start of my hunting season when the first dove season opens. 2 weeks go by and no more hunting until quail opens on the third saturday in october and I hunt them (and dove for 45 days starting the second saturday in nov.) until the last sunday in january. the dogs are ready, the guns are clean and I'm waiting VERY impatiently. I shoot a 20ga beretta o/u. I will also be shooting squirrel year round now with my new (modified) ruger 10/22.
