: ever hear of a 6cyl in a K30?
abig84 07-18-2007, 04:22 PM i found a 80s k30 short bed 4x4 for sale. a friend of mine knows the guy and said its got a straight 6 in it. it did have the 1tons under it, only 65,000 miles and in great shape wants 2500 for it. its tempting.
did they put a straight 6 in k30s? cause the same guy who told me that is the same guy who thought a 350 was a 302

Have you actually seen it? Just go look at it. If it does tell him you will give him a $1000 bucks cause the six is worth less than a v-8! :D
I sure some did you could order any engine in anything in those days!
abig84 07-18-2007, 04:39 PM i saw it a few days ago but didnt look at the engine, i was going to the BMV which is a few miles away, dont really feel like going back out to the ghetto if i dont have to. id tear out that engine anyways
BUT... what i was thinking, if it does have a 6cyl in there you know those axles have to have some low gears
Kyron 07-18-2007, 04:58 PM I've seen dulleys with the 4.3 v6 even........
most were special order for large companys....... :)
overkill48 07-18-2007, 04:59 PM They didn't make a K30 in a shortbed so if it has a d60 someone swapped it in. But I have worked on 2 1 tons locally that had straight 6 in them.
s10er8 07-18-2007, 05:02 PM they came with a 292 straight six
GMCTruxrule 07-18-2007, 05:30 PM Yeah, ain't no K30s that were shortbeds.
Shortbed was a half ton option only, and I've "heard" that they made some 3/4 ton shortbeds too.
My shortbed was an original K10, equipped with a small block, TH350, NP205 and front and rear 10 bolts.
But that is all in the past now....:D

it had like what apeared to be a 6 foot homemade flatbed on it. so who knows what they did to the truck, it did have k30 badges on it
6.2Blazer 07-19-2007, 11:14 AM The construction company I worked for in the summers when in school had several K-30's and Ford F-350's with straight sixes in them (292 and 300). Not sure what the gearing was but I'm sure it was fairly low as they all red-lined in the 65 mph range.
reeser 07-19-2007, 12:32 PM straight 6's in a 1 ton are major scores cause you can get them for way cheap and they have at least 4.56's maybe 5.13's in the diffs. this saves you money down the road.
odin544 07-20-2007, 10:16 AM The truck I got my crew cab off of was a 1ton with a straight 6

You've actually seen this? The lowest gearing I've ever heard of is in the m1008's with 4.56's and a detroit...
The factory used 5.13's in some applications? I find that hard to believe...

I dont.
The factory was at one time in favor of customer orders. If they had it, they sold it.
such is no longer the case.

dont know about chevy but my buddy has a late 70s ram charger came stock with d70/d60 with 4.88s
offroadjunkie 10-03-2007, 07:16 PM back when this thing was built you could order damn near anything. look at the dodges they didnt have a full crew cab in the 70s and 80s but forest and special order vehicles have quad cabs. My college shop teachers c20 had a rear detroit and 4.56 gears. Sadly i dont think i can go order the new chevy with a actual detroit and 4.56 gears. times change.
avery4jc 10-03-2007, 11:40 PM Thats pretty cool...I'd never heard of anything lower than the 4.56's that came in the CUCV trucks...
Hmmm learn somethin' new every day...
