Like the new pics even more. The poppyshop does look a lot better than the driveway. The garage at my new place sucks eggs compared to the old house. Thank god my rig is almost done.

Youve gotten a lot done, been busy in the ghetto...still waiting for you to have the first beadlocked Daytons:D

NIce. What made you stay with leaf springs in back? I am debating what to put in the back of my next rig. My little voice keeps saying leaf springs, they are simple and they work.

Here's the thread refered to above. (http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=59321&perpage=39&pagenumber=2) One of the local gurus has always said never run a super flexy suspension at both ends. He likes leafs at one end. What are you going to do about a traction bar? We put a D44 and D60 under my bosses Jeep this weekend. I noticed when he loosened the bolts on the traction bar the whole suspension relaxed so the bar was fighting the springs even at rest. Ever thought about running springs with shackles at both ends and then some sort of link setup? I know a guy who runs this up front and it works pretty sweet, never seen it in the back on the trail.

I've been tweaking and testing my springs off and on all weekend and I will definitely need a bar, the wrap is gruesome in the back. I'll run some kind of ladder bar ssupsended by a shackle like the Sam's Offroad style. They work really good and don't bind anything up.

i went with the leafs cause i had them and you can't argue with how well they work. eventually i'll go 4 link and coils or 1/4 elliptical. i'm waiting on the traction bar and see how bad my wrap is. if i need it it will be a ladder bar and shackle just like what sams offroad is making.

But you may want to get rid of those 6 1/4" kicker panel speakers

2" .120 HREW tube bent with my spiffy new pro-tools model #105 hd bender. things works awesome. would recomend the purchase.

i also got the RINGR from kerry wittig. that thing is nice and beefy! so if your looking for gearing i believe he has a batch in stock now.

So after all the work on the body of the 'mini-digger'... why the decision to go buggy?

I've decided that I want to go coils someday.(not coilOVER - I'm not rich, after all) Not because I want ultra-flex, or because I hate leaf springs.... but you just can't argue with a 90* approach and departure angle.

poppycock
06-13-2002, 06:32 PM
i went buggy cause i bought the bender... had to learn how to use it. :D i want coilovers in the rear... but i'm not rich either. the approach and departure angle are damn good for leafs on this thing.

you can also see that i made provisions for coilovers in the rear... just a couple cuts and it will still be clean. (just in case)

the rear output on the toyota transfer case was littler higher than i expected. my rear shaft is going to be about 33". but's pretty steep. i'd hate to see what it would look like on a swb mines at 100". scwafish got any pics of your rear driveshaft?

scwafish
06-23-2002, 07:55 AM
Poppy- Mine is steep but fine, definitely had to turn the pinion way up and I'm running a high angle cv from Arizona dshafts. The height of the output is way up there, as I've said before, if your sami aint stretched you would need at least a high pinion to make it work well. I'll email you a pic.

I like your crossmember. If I was doing it again I'd do something like that with bushings at the frame and solid tabs to the tc. The factory toy tc mount moves more than I want with the zuk motors mounts...in other words...you were right. Mine is fine, but I think your set up will be better.

what is kerry's wheelbase scwa? do you know of any people running running the toy trans + cases in a short wheelbase rig?

the crossmember came out nice. i think i'm going to add a skidplate to it though.

I think his kick wb is stock, whatever that is??? I don't know if anyone is running one in a swb but without a hi-pinion it would be a tight fit.
