And please don't come back and say, 'ha ha, very funny, what's it really like'.
If you get 15k for the rubi, you can get a nice 4k disco, then put 11k into it and have...... a 100 inch rubi with a hard top.
cptyarderho 07-19-2007, 01:29 PM www.discoweb.org is a much better place, this is a harder core of enthusiasts. Many of the same people are over there, but it is more oriented towards the mainstream.
To get you started towards 33 try these guys www.rovertym.com Steve is one of the nicest vendors in the market.
FWIW I sold my TJ to get a LR, and only occasionally regret it.:p
krazz1e 07-20-2007, 09:42 AM I run 38" tire with stock rover axles. These things are really strong.

That's just wrong Justin... I can't believe you give out such secrets!!
Hey Tony when you want to keep it from breaking give me a call.

ZONE ZERO 07-23-2007, 08:12 PM hey thanks for the links they were helpfull I love the disco. Im already looking into a lift and Im trying to find a basket for the top. I know Im new to this group being a jeeper forever. But I would love some pointers and some vendors that sell parts in the US.
One more quick question Im going to run a snorkel I have always had them on my jeeps but it seams like the electronics in the disco could be a problem should I jsut silicon everything I can find?

On point one, I will say that I recently bought a Disco 1 and after a good deal of research, I decided to one stop shop at http://www.rovertym.com/ for suspension and protection. I've nothing to do with them, nor have I bought from them before, but they have a good rep and bang for buck, seem to offer value for money.
On the second point, not sure where you're located, but you need to do some research on Land Rover electronics in general and Lucas in particular. If you are still alive and well following said research, you need to find a Santeria shop and get yourself some really good Ju-Ju before you start siliconing anything in that truck.:rasta:
ZONE ZERO 07-24-2007, 06:21 PM im in Ma. Id like to run 33 inch tires I was running 35 on my jeeps but would like to take the rover in another direction. I did mostly rock crawling in the jeep. I would like to set up the disco as a good all around truck I dont want to worry about snow or how deep it might be . So Im thinking 33 a basket lights snorkel winch maby lockers.
are there any Ma. or new england Rover clubs I could hook up with for a run?
PTSchram 07-24-2007, 07:21 PM Abandon all hope, you bought one.
You do know that you belong to the truck, not the other way around. Land Rovers are fickle, jealous and possessive lovers.
Welcome to the cult :flipoff2:

I guess you didn't read my post about discos.....
Anyway, here's a shot of my truck stuck - but still running. It's a well known spot in Ma.

krazz1e 07-25-2007, 10:26 AM ok i lie, i run 40" tires on stock axles.
rovertym.com

all you need right there.
33's and you will likely have to trim to the rear qp, the so-called camel cut (no, it's not missing a letter) and may have to trim the rear door inner well. 235/85 (32") gives you 1/2" less under the diff and probably won't require trimming with a 2" mellow lift.
BSROA has been a shambles but it appears there is a concerted effort to get it better organized. Sort out your rig and we'll see you at Fall Heritage.
Mark - the waterhole looks pretty deep in that shot. When was it ?

Even with 235s, trimming is definitely required. I could barely drive home from the tire shop without wasting my brandy new tires.
Trimming the rear fenders was the first step in a long descent down a very slippery slope.

~4 years ago? Maybe 5.

MB - time to break out the sawzall! Please make it purty, I told SWMBO that she was just getting some new tyres.....
ZONE ZERO 07-27-2007, 10:30 AM so Im looking to do this on a budget, I looked around and found coil spring spacers (http://www.roversnorth.com/store/pc-5358-411-2in-lift-spacer-for-coil-spring-suspension-set-of-4.aspx)
this is what I found they look solid but Im now wondering if I can run the stock shocks with them I would think that I could looking at the front coil springs . in my book 2 inches is not that much there should not be any drive line issues with this?
also Im fine with 32 inch tires and a 2 inch lift in regards to the fender triming are we talkeing about Inner fender or outter body panneling?
So am I pissing anyone off yet with the Newbee questions.
thanks againg
PTSchram 07-27-2007, 11:50 AM Keep suggesting doing things like using spacers and you WILL get flamed. Spacers don't do near enough. 2" can cause driveline vibes (ascending the ladder to the high moral ground) Rover owners seem to think universal joints can run in one position for 100K miles and then magically, they will accomodate a lift-ain't gonna happen. At the very least, you'll need to replace the joints. Do it right, replace the springs with Rovertyms, new shocks (your choice, I'm not gonna claim to know what you should do for shox) and taller more aggressive tires (not all-terrains, even if they are uber bling BFGs) and learn to drive it (descending from the high moral ground before my vertigo kicks in or Pendy kicks me off)
ZONE ZERO 07-27-2007, 04:41 PM I will never run a BFG if you wheel in new england you know that the bfg is junk in the rocks and trails around here. I have seen to many bfg tires shreaded off road I dont view them as an acceptable tire. any way Im glad to have some feed back Ill jsut save some money for the rovertyme springs. I think Im going to fab up my basket and skid plates since theres none under the dam thing. Ill have to make it to one of the rover events around here and look at everyones junk to see whats up. ttyl.

The trails "around here"? Is there something special about New England "rocks and trails" that differs from all the other places where folks happily run BFGs ? I dunno,, pussy-wheelin' places like, say, Colorado??:shaking::shaking:
Also - What do you think your buddy over at RTE runs on his flagship Discovery................................?

well ya there is something kinda diffrent about new england wheeling thats not to say other areas are not harder or easer. its just from personal experance with the clubs and people in new england. most of us agree that the BFG except for the Crawler are mild tires that dont stand up to the rocks and terrain. I have been on several trail runs and seen BFG MTs shread like paper on the trail. I have also seen the super swamper Traxxus mt do the same thing my friend had 3 tires ripped up. I have personaly recked a set my self.
Also "Trails around here" are hard on the sheet metal most trailerd vehicals look like they have gone through a trash compactor.
if its shiney and new it will be rusty and bent after a stay in new england.
