I used to live down there, but now have to drive about 12 hours, so I like to make the most of it. I've found that I really like it in October and also in early April. Those times have always worked out well for me. If you live there, then you can go using the current weather as a guide. But if you are travelling, then you just have to plan for a certain time and stick with it. You have to remember that it is a desert. I've been on the lake bed when it been well over 100 and also been out there and had a dusting of snow once in Jan. Either way, whether you are travelling or live in the area, I would get ahold of the Benders and talk to them. They will by far be able to get you the best information about the place.

It's about 4 hours travel time for me. I'll go most anytime from Sept-May.

As others have said, weather can change in hours, hot/calm to freezing/windy.

The Allpro jambo was freezing ass cold. Sleeping in a tent didn't help either.

Sorry for the thread hijack, but I just noticed the California Mini Trucks person. Many many moons ago, I had converted a 1978 Datsun kingcab 2wd into a 4wd using jeep parts. At that time, I converted it from an auto to a manual. It was California Mini Trucks where I got the stuff to do the conversion. When I got the truck up and running I trotted my arse down to return the old auto. I pulled my truck into the back yard and unloaded the auto trans. Just as I was starting to leave, the manual trans FUBAR'd. Well your yard guy fiddled with it for a while and couldn't get it to go into gear. So you guys ended up giving me another trans. And one of the employees or owner, don't really remember that far back, in a silver CJ5 trailered my dead truck to my home. Never have forgotten the great service you all gave me.
