i've got what is supposedly a ford t18. it doesn't have BW 1301 anywhere on it and i've seen true t18's and those markings are VERY noticable. the shifter tower sais t98 and the case sais t18-1

i've been told that the earlier t18's used the t98 shift towers. does this mean that the shift tower bolt pattern will be different? mine looks more similar to a t19 shift tower pattern than a t18's.

also, it has an app 6.3 granny. so, i'm even more hopeful it's a real t18.

my question is:

is 1st gear (granny) helically cut? the biggest gear in there is NOT helically cut. it goes from motor to xcase: 4th (syncro), sliding gear, 3rd (syncro), big jump in gear size to what i'm guessing is 2nd (syncro), sliding ( what i think is granny) non-syncroed gear, lever to left for reverse (when standing at the back of the car).

i can get pictures if it helps. i'm just trying to figure out what the heck this thing is. i know the t18 has a non-syncroed 1st and reverse, but i can't figure out what gear that is.

thanks a lot-russel

The First gear would not be helical cut. just non-syncro Spur gear.
Reverse for the t-18 is too the right and up toward the dash. That is the lever motion.

Check out the manual tranny section on my page. It might help with some of your questions. The T-18/19/98 is a mixed bunch though. Some of each will fit the others.
