It’s ON. FOTR WORK weekend:

Friends of the Rubicon (FOTR) August 18-19, 2007 work weekend Sign Up Form
We're working on the Wentworth Springs Road and we NEED TRAILERS. I know, I know..trailers again. But El Dorado County has come through again for us and we HAVE ROCK. We need to commit to the county and help them move it and fix our WW access. They've given us our very own Mike Overmeyer and county equipment to pull this off.

Mike is already doing prep work with loaders and dump trucks to ease the way for us. Sign up below. We'll most likely find a camp site we can share (like WW or Airport Flat); and hopefully we'll pull off another nice dinner -- most likely in camp, with us chickens doing the cookin'. :) For sure, it will be productive and FUN.

I’ll bring up the FOTR trailer and haul more rock! Allow both days if you can (Sun am for a few trips for those that can stay).

Just to stay off anyone's concerns... this is essentially maintenance work done to the driveway to the trail -- where the uphill rock starts East of the Wentworth Campground, that's the trail... and we're working well West of that to fill the dug-out, lowered dirt section of the trail to permit better year-round access.

If you only run the trail in the summer, then you may not have seen how deep this low section of the trail becomes. Add in frozen ice that is broken and chunked by traffic, and the road is nearly impassable. Raising the road bed will help with that issue and will minimize the ability of the anti-access closurists to compain about us driving through water, stirring up sedimentation, and etc.

This is a win-win for everyone, with the possible exception of folks who enjoy jamming icebergs into their radiators while crossing 40-inch deep holes of frigid water...

Pic from May 6th, I hope it's a little more dried out so we can at least pull trailers through there without water half way up the shins...

Regards,
....Mike

For our Wentworth project, here's a quick overview:

We'll have the following teams/staff:

Loading Team (Mike Overmeyer) and county equipment
Unloading Team (Mike Ross), and muddy shoes
OPS Chief (Rusty Folena)
Incident Commander (Del)
Haul Team (Jerry Sparkman)
Communications Team
Medic Team
Safety Officer

Basically this is a simple one. Pick up the rock in trailers where Mike O is working the plies with heavy equipment; haul them to the dump site; dump the rock; turn around and head back for another load.

We're working on a nice dinner Saturday night -- most likely camp BBQ kinda thing.

Camping arrangements are not set in stone yet; but it appears we'll have some at WW Springs and some at place nearby like Airport Flat.

RV's and big campers will have to stay at Airport Flat or the like.

Sign up when you think you can make it. Trailers are essential to this one.
thanks to all of you,
Del

Hi Del. I can bring my Kubota again if that will help. I think it works well for loading these small trailers like when we did the 20something water bars on the upper end. I also have a Jeep trailer I can bring. My email won't let me sign up so count me in and I expect to get there Saturday morning.

I already volunteered to do Medical and Comms, but I can switch to loading and bring a Ford/New Holland tractor with a 1/2 yard loader if that is more in need.

Am I correct in my recollection that this part of the trail is fairly mellow, not too rocky? If so, I could bring my utility trailer. It can haul a lot, but its not really built for driving on rocks.

That trailer looks plenty capable for this part of the trail to me.

I'll be on Maniac's team. Or if Rusty has a crew his too. ;)
