Ok so first of all, I know this won't be a very popular question, but there is a lot of good tech on this board so i figured I'd ask anyways.

My little sister has a 90 K5, 4", 33s, otherwise all stock. We both go to school 3.5 hours away, and the blazer needs a little work before my dad is cool with her having it at school that far away where he can't really fix stuff on it.

The front 10 bolt (I know i know) is in need of some r&r. usually my dad would do it and/or do it with me, but we are about to start remodeling our house and there isnt really time for him to begin another project. since i volunteered to look into doing this myself, i was wondering if there are any good guides/articles/schematics/write ups/etc detailing a rebuild of a 10 bolt front (or very similar). the diagrams in my chiltons manual are not that great and kind of scarce.

this would be my first time tearing into an axle, especially a front end, any special tools need? we know the diff is good, so i wont be tearing int there.

thanks

Try ck5.com I think you would have better luck finding out how to rebuild stock stuff on a k5 over there. Just my opinion though. Good luck.

This will give you an idea of the tear down. Then just reverse what you did with original parts.

if you are not messing with the diff or gears, which should be fine if it is part time 4x4 it is really simple to rebuild the "outers". Normal wear items would be the hub bearings and races, hub seals, balljoints, brakes , tie-rod ends, drag link ends, and a basic look over of all the non wear items for un-usual cracks, warping, or bending. make sure the lockouts are in working shape, and check the spindle nut / lock in intact. this should cover all the items that would wear from normal 2wd on road driving.

Basiclly just pay attention to how everthing comes apart replace the worn items, pack the bearing with grease as well as liberally stuffing the hubs with grease. put it back together with the new parts the same way it came apart.

any chiltons manual for a 90 k-5 would have good info on rebuilding the axle.
