: Stuck on my herculiner project

Ok, So I'm putting herculiner on my jeep and the scuff pad that comes with the kit lasted my cargo area and one side and pretty much became worthless. My question is can I use sandpaper on the inside? Cause I know its gonna be covered with Herculiner but I don't know if the sandpaper could go to deep in the paint and mess it up somehow.

This is where I am now

YES. Its actually a lot better. Don't worry about the paint, once you put this stuff on the paint is fawked, only way to get this off is lots of scraping and acetone. So don't get it anywhere you don't want it.

50 grit works better, the lines left in the paint will be filled in and you won't notice them when you are done. It will help create a surface for the liner to stick to.

Got it in my CJ7 and love.:smokin:

Thanks. I will get back to work as soon as I get the feeling back in my shoulder.

Sounds good. Post up a picture when you are done, it will make a difference. Had mine in for more than two years now. About to redo mine cause I messed up in a few places and its pretty worn out from abuse. :D

Lets just say dragging a lot of heavy things you shouldn't haul in a jeep over it dosn't keep it looking very good.

So far this is where I'm at, I'm taking a break for dinner so I figured I'd post up.

This is my entire cargo area sanded down to the paint almost.

I would advise againts putting it directly on your roll cage, the stuff is pretty ruff and will rub anything that touches it raw pretty quick. Had some down about a foot upon the front bars near the attachment point... and scrapped my leg up a couple times getting out of my Jeep. Ended up a lot of work to get it off.

By the way I see where you wrote Jeep in the dust. :-D

I ended up using a small electric sander (a Black & Decker Mouse) with some heavy grit paper when I did the inside of a 4Runner with Herculiner. Worked bitchin' and saved a lot of time over roughing up the floor by hand. The pointy part of the sander was even handy for getting into corners. The stuff works great, but plan on two coats as the instructions say; I thought I could just apply it extra-thick in one coat, but ended up with two coats anyway.

Oh and this was weird because I sanded here and found my initials even though I didn't put them there. It was destiny that this jeep is mine

And this is me testing out my ghetto seat :shaking:

Ha ha. You can come over tomorrow and help put the actual liner on. I did all the hard work and sanded it all down and taped it all off.

Yeah I'm not putting it on my roll cage anywhere. I plan on replacing the whole thing this winter when I get some spare time. And your the first to spot Jeep. Congrats! I didn't think anyone would catch that

I used an angle grinder and took it to metal in big zig-zaggy patterns to rough it up and make it stick. Couldn't see it at all after it was sprayed.

Two seasons and it's working great.

I got it all lined today. It looks really good. I had a buddy help and we did it in an hour, waited an hour, took lunch and then put a second coat on and it seemed to be perfect.

All pictures can be seen here. http://usera.imagecave.com/rebelfish/

Two coats are good enough. But really you want it as thick as possible.

USE EVERY LAST DROP OF IT. I don't know anyone that can actually save the stuff. One the crap in it dries you just get a big round thing of rubber.

Oh, and nice Advanced Auto ricer section brake/accel peddle. :flipoff2:

I got the same kind.

Yeah my feet kept slipping off the regular pedals because I work construction and the mud on my boots would make them slippery as hell. Which is how I got in my first accident, slipped off the brake and hit a mustang.

Pretty much same deal with me, except with the clutch. The stupid little rubber piece would come off when using the clutch and almost crashed a few times. The last straw was when I was down shifting and slipped, poped the clutch in 2nd at a low rpm and killed it taking a turn across two lanes of traffic. :mad3: It killed over but I was not rolling fast enough to keep it started.

But hey, they work very good. And like you said, even with muddy boots you can still grip them.

Get your damn shoulder pop'd back in place and put that thing back together! I want to see it in about a week from now... I'm sure you'll probably have the interior flooded by then. :D

How does Herc hold up long term? I'm torn between Herc and getting Line-X mainly because I want it to last.

Herc does not hold up anywhere near as well as Rhino or LineX. Rhino is thicker and less slippery. Linex is hard as nails and will abrade your knuckles to the point of bleeding if you aren't careful working around it.

That being said, I went Hippo-Liner...stronger than Herc, not quite as strong as Rhino or LineX, and it can be matched to the color of your Jeep. It gets shot in with an undercoating gun ($40). I did it myself and though I am well reknowned for my shitty painting skills, it came out great. Total cost on it was about $125 for everything, including the gun.

A friend herc'd his Jeep interior and says that it faded in short order, and mud cakes into the texture way too easily and is a bitch to get out. I'm going to try Durabak...another friend just did his Jeep interior with it so I'll wait to see how it turns out relative to the Herc.

After admittedly not searching that hard, where can you get Hippo Liner?

Herc and Durabak are the same thing, same company. I was looking at Durabak too.
