: brakes with 1 ton axles? and dana 300?s
skinny 09-03-2001, 07:11 PM i have two questions who makes the cheapest adapter for a dana 300 to a turbo 350 tranny?
and will a stok 92 yj master cylinder work with a dana 60 front (stock disks), and a 14 bolt rear (stock drums)????? <IMG SRC="smilies/confused.gif" border="0">
High5 09-03-2001, 09:02 PM i just bought an adapter for my 4L80E to d300 a couple of months ago and central fourwheel drive was the cheapest place i called. i don't have a # right now but they have adds in all the mags.
as for the stock master cylinder i doubt it. my stock cj master didn't like the d60 and 14bolt i put in. i just swapped in a hydroboost from the same 1ton truck i got my front 60 from. from what i hear this is the way to go but i havn't tried it yet. i'm waiting to finish up this vortec 350.
skinny 09-04-2001, 07:23 PM anyone else?
1BDYJ 09-04-2001, 07:34 PM My stock master seems to be working ok...but I run rear discs. I did use rear drums for a little while and they worked ok.
I will probably replace entire system with something else......hmmmmmm....waitin for a flame board on who uses what and why!!
Any takers???? <IMG SRC="smilies/eek.gif" border="0">
skinny 09-04-2001, 08:03 PM i guess i will try and run them with the stock shiat when the time arises, anyone else have and idea why i shouldnt
Jeepmangled87 09-04-2001, 09:54 PM why dont you save some cash and drop that bitch off at a shop in the area just my thought it would be done right then... <IMG SRC="smilies/smokin.gif" border="0">
SCRAPER 09-04-2001, 10:18 PM im going to be swapping in a MC and booster from a 77 Vette. i let you know how it works. <IMG SRC="smilies/rolleyes.gif" border="0">
High5 09-04-2001, 10:30 PM i guess i will try and run them with the stock shiat when the time arises, anyone else have and idea why i shouldnt
that is what i'd do. try it and if it works then there you go. i doubt it will but it might and it doesn't hurt to try.

I am using the stock master cylinder and power booster and it seems to work really well. The jeep stops better with 38's, than it ever did.
ChadLloyd 09-05-2001, 04:56 AM Don't forget that ~1993-5 the YJ master cylinder boosters got bigger. Mine (95) is considerably bigger than my friend's 92 or my other friends '91. I imagine that CJs are the same size or smaller than early YJs, and that TJs are the same or bigger than mine.
skinny 09-05-2001, 05:09 AM ya drop it off at a shop to hook up breaklines <IMG SRC="smilies/rolleyes.gif" border="0"> that makes a lot of since, and besides i cant afford that shait
JohnBuuu 09-05-2001, 10:55 AM couple questions for you guys.....how do your jeeps stock with the 1 ton brake hardware? and how is hte pedal feel....does it give you a huge amount of power if you jsut tap it since the 1 ton brake are so muchmore powerful or what?
im switching to 1ton stuff soon, and id like to know what to expect brakewise
thanks
~John
massey2jeep 09-05-2001, 09:32 PM I have discs up front on my Ford 60 and drums on my rear 60..NO PROBLEMS! as in ZERO! It will work just fine. So long as you have a proportioning valve (you do) you sould be fine. Stoppes better than stock and 35's!
JohnBuuu 09-05-2001, 10:02 PM massey and others....can you lock all 4 wheels on demand with the 1 ton brakes?
would you say your braking is close to, or better than stock?
also, what needs to be done, in terms of brakelines, to mate the hard lines from the axles, to the jeeps original equip. im thikning of the flex hose going to the rear axle, and the two front lines...isnt the 1 ton stuff a much bigger line....maybe i have it messed up....whats goin on there?

Jeepmangled87 09-05-2001, 10:23 PM Save your money and drop it off at a shop and it might all finally be done right just my thoughts.... <IMG SRC="smilies/jeep1.gif" border="0">

First of all, yes I can lock 'em up...all four.
Second, I have a flex hose running to my rear axle. Go here, http://www.amstreetrod.com/html/speed-flex.html . This is where I got mine. They are on my way to work. I got 2 sets(fittings) since I wasn't sure what size to get for the adapter to my hard line. They told me to just bring back whichever ones I didn't need. Maybe if you know the vehicle your donor axles are coming from they MAY have some sort of reference guide. Their prices can't be beat although their product is not DOT approved(the lines themselves). <IMG SRC="smilies/rolleyes.gif" border="0"> It is however high quality! I've rubbed 'em a few times. oops. <IMG SRC="smilies/redface.gif" border="0"> and they look great.
Hope this helps.
JohnBuuu 09-05-2001, 11:30 PM massey....thanks a bunch man...that helps me out alot.

I KNOW you have a proportioning valve. It is part of the MC itself. It isn't something you might add externally.
Putting your lines on is rather straight forward, just bolt and go. Now all you have to do is figure out how long you want your brake lines to be.
ps. Thanks. Not beast though...it's MASSEY!!!! Here are a few slogans from years past re: the Massey Lift Co.
-----
"How Massssssssssssey is your Lift?" "Go Massey or Go Home" "MASSEY,The Standard by which all other 4X's are measured!" "Have you hugged your 60's today?"

JohnBuuu 09-06-2001, 07:33 AM i see....so i have a proportioning valve built into the master cylinder huh....this may be a dumbass question, but who cares...is it adjustable?

thanks for your help man.

I have never heard of an adjustable one. That's not so say one isn't out there.
I'm just guessing here now, but I think the valve remains open until a certain pressure is reached then closes.
don't worry bout it. Slap them under there, then...HOLD ON! <IMG SRC="smilies/eek.gif" border="0"> lol j/k lolololol
1BDYJ 09-06-2001, 05:43 PM Wildwood makes an adjustable valve that plumbs right in line, it has a knob to adjust it...very easy to adjust.
JohnBuuu 09-06-2001, 08:36 PM ive seen tons of adj proportioning valves...wilwood makes one, mopar has one, summit has their inhouse brand....
but if i already have one, i wont worry about it. thanks again Massey.
skinny 09-07-2001, 07:26 AM thanks for the all the help guys, seems like it will work to me
Leader 09-07-2001, 10:38 AM If you put disks on the rear, you'll more than likly need one of those adjustable ones..I sure did, my back brakes locked up way before my fron ones did..If you keep the drums on the rear, the stock valve should work fine.
skinny 09-07-2001, 12:12 PM thanks monty,i got the new tub and frame at my shop starting assembly this weekend <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">
