I know this isn't the wanted section, but i thought i would try here also. I have a wagoneer 44...and i need just one spindle. its a 6 bolt pattern if that matters. Needs to be in good condition.
Aret these generally easy to come by??

I'm looking for a spindle for my 78 F-150 dana 44 for my Jeep, too. None of my local parts stores carry the spindles and the dealer's books only go back to 1980!

I replied to this in the wanted section too, but I have an early style (read small bearing) spindle that I'll let go for $25 plus shipping. I believe it fits early Chevy and Ford applications.

Kendo- is the spindle new or used? Can you measure the diameter and post it then I'll double check it with mine. I could definitely use a new one! Thanks!

Are the early ones interchangeable? IE between Ford & Chevy? I thought they were different.

Don't know if this helps, but I have 2 Chevy 1/2-ton d44 spindles. PM me if you need either.

Spindle is used, new ones go for $100 down at the 4WD shop here. I'll measure it but I know for a fact that it is the one used on late 70's Fords. It ias also used in early to mid 70's Chebby's. The later Chebby's and Waggie's spindles used a larger inner bearing. I converted to this later spindle but had to have my Ford hubs machined a few thousandths to get the bearing to seat. Both spindles use the same outer bearing though.

its a early 70's waggy spindle...so i don't think this will fit, as you said they use the big bearing. If any one has one let me know,
drunk guy is 20 bucks a go plus shipping???

Well, if it's an early 70's Waggie, you're gonna need the small bearing spindle. Same for the 78 F150. They (Chevy/Jeep) didn't start using the large inner bearing model until late 70's or early 80's (Jeep).

I went to carparts.com and cross-referenced inner bearing part #'s, came up the same for early (70's) Chevy, Waggie and most Fords (that came with a 44 anyway). I used 74 Wagoneer as a point of reference for yours, not sure what your year is. I don't think Jeep switched to the larger bearing until about 80.

This has been covered on here a million times, and in the past few weeks, I've been getting really acquainted with this...

I needed some small bearing spindles (henceforth SBS) and I had to basically spend a weekend finding them (2 days in toto).

· Waggys - only 74-76 had the 44 with the SBS. This is a small window - earlier was the 30 and later was the Big bearing.

· Chevy´s - 77 or older, although this was apparently a mid-year switch in either 77 or 78 model years. I can't remember which, alhough if you look for say, 76 or older, you're fine.

Search for 5 lug conversion, which is where you use the hubs and rotors off of an F150 and these small spindles, and there is a wealth of info.

Just grab one off any Chevy 78 on up even a 10 bolt will work. This is one of the easyer spindles to find.

Went junkyard diving this weekend for D44 axle shafts and removed the spindles you need. There is an 85 and 79 Waggy in the lot. I will be going back to pull the steering and cover. If you want to ride along shoot me an email off the list. Not sure on the spindle price but I paid $15 for the shafts......
