Im looking for a few flame free opinions on this idea of mine. Current rig is a '98 tj on 31 ssr swampers, im swaping my skyjacker lift from my old xj to the tj. 3in coils, tubular upper and lower control arms, and a few other pieces. My question, could I cut the poly bushing off one end of the control arms and weld in this joint I found. (see link below) Would this work to increase articulation, or am I just pissing in the wind.

Also, this is a dumb one but I see you guys talking about "single shear and double shear" what the hell does this refer too? thanks in advance!

Yeah that link would work but you can get a Rubicon Express one for not much more.
Single and double shear means , does the bolt go through one piece of steel, then the part, then a nut or is it through a piece of steel (mount) then the part that you are bolting in, then another piece of steel (mount).
So is your bracket that you are bolting to shaped like l or is it like this U

I agree, you definitely could do it. Would I? Nope. I enjoy my tailbone not feeling like crap after a ride in the Heep. I think you should cut off the axle end of the CA and mount it on there. Keep the rubber bushing for the frame mounted end.
And are you going to put the leafs in the rear? That's a bit of fab work. Might as well stretch it if you're going that route.

Thats a negative ghost rider, no leaves in the rear. Im wanting to try front coils from a zj in the rear of the tj. I have heard they will offer around 4in of lift in the rear. My front coils from the xj are 3in lift, Im hoping for around 4in on the tj due to the weight difference. And I think I will take your advice on doing the pivot mount on the axle end of the arm.

Given the choice of Rubicon Express versus Skyjunker, or even modified Skyjunker control arms, it's RE all the way :D

I would love to run RE, but im lacking money. Hey that rymes... anyways, In a year or so im going to go long arm but for the time being I plan to run what I have, the skyjacker arms gotta be better than the stockers.Im just wanting to make the best out of what I have avalable.

I ran 3" Skyjacker XJ coils in the front of my last TJ and they netted me 4.5" of lift. Just to warn you, those springs give a pretty stiff ride.

Im hoping that since they are a few years old they have softened up a little. If they are too stiff, I will have to buy something new :( but I figure nothing ventured, nothing gained.
