: High Pionion 60 Problems
Willy 09-20-2001, 10:44 PM My freind bought a High Pinion 60 from Dynatrac and has broken the ring and pinion 2 times now and the last time the locker wasn't even engaged. Will a High Pinion 60 hold up in the rear with a 400 horse power engine 3.8 atlas and 4.88 gears? He is to the point of going to a straight cut 60 in the rear if he can't get it to hold up.
High5 09-20-2001, 10:56 PM when used in the rear the hp's are not as strong however used in the front they are stronger.
Dingo 09-20-2001, 11:00 PM when used in the rear the hp's are not as strong however used in the front they are stronger.
How so??? I really don't know alot about HP's and would like to know why that would be? Seems to me like they sould be about the same strength if they are put in the front or the rear, but like I said, I really don't know too much about them.
thanks
Adam Ant 09-21-2001, 12:59 AM HP Rear End's Are Weaker In the Rear Becuase
they Drive Off the Coast side of the Gear not Meant For this In Design 20% to 30% Weaker,,,, But since the Ring Gear Is So large 9 3/4 Then it is really Not and Issue!!!
As far As Horsepower
I have Seen Alot More Horsepower Than You'r Buddy Has On these Rearend's And they Hold Up Fine So Leads Me to Believe That Posibily Error Some where In Axle If this
Is Twice!!!!!
but it seems that he Must Have Bad Set up!!
Or Possibly the Ring Gear And Pinion Manufactuer Are Making Junk !! Many possibility's !!!!
Have Him go through DynaRape And Fix the Problem!!!!
Did DynaRape Build the Whole Axle ???
Or Did He Just Get Center Section And Have Someone Else Do the Work ??? Tube It I mean???
Or Did He get A Tubed Rear End Then Take it To somwhere And Get It Geared ????
And What type Of Manufactuer Is the Ring And Pinion????
Adam,
wngrog 09-21-2001, 06:58 AM This should not be a problem with your setup. I agree with AA, go to Dynatrac and make them make this right. Sounds like bad poo poo.
Sux.

Willy 09-21-2001, 11:31 AM We are on the East Coast and Dynatrac said it would be november before the could get us some parts I wish they were close enough we could givem alittel vist, but yes he bought a complete rear end from them and the first one was set up wrong in my opinion had wrong contact pattern and we dont know if the rear was set up righ on not but this time he is taking it a profesinal and I dont know what type of gear Dynatrac sent him the first time eiter, but this time he orderd a Dana gear so I hope it holds up and was just wondering. Thanks
AtomicBeesting 09-21-2001, 12:22 PM Is it a shaved ring gear?
66CJdean 09-21-2001, 12:58 PM What brand of gears has he been using? I blewup one ring and pinion in my RC60 and I ony have a V6. Some brands are better at wheeling loads than others and some are better at shock loads like drag racing than others.
rockbound 09-21-2001, 01:03 PM You guys are scaring me!!!
This should not be an issue at all, If this happend twice I would say that there is deffinatly something wrong with the axle and how it is being set up.
My 2 cents

66CJdean 09-21-2001, 04:07 PM My point is get something like a Spicer or Precision Gear and that will probably be the last time. It is realy important on a RC60 to set them up right simce they drive in reverse most all the time so get some help on setting up the gears before grenading another set.

LOL yup, people think that a RC in the front is stronger, I have to disagree with that!! The front end is going to see the MAXIMUM amount of load when the vehicle is backing up a hill. Therefore you will be using the strong side of the teeth when you most need it!

Mieser 09-24-2001, 10:27 AM Ant,
Not to be a smartass....well ok...I am.
I don't drive around backwards and up hills backwards usually, unless there is a lot of barley pop in my system! How often that happens is up to interpritation.

Then you aren't wheel'in hard enough!! Get yourself dropping into some big arse boulders where you have no choice to back out and you'll know what I'm talk'in about!!
