How much stronger is the fine spline vs the coarse spline. fj40?

Kyuss Fan? I don't think that anyone has actually measured the performance of the spline and compared them, but word has it that they are substantially stronger.

For what its worth I have only broken one pinion. It was a fine spline. all I had to replace it with was a course spline. I have had it in for about 3 yrs now. I run a 350 with 35x16 boggers and I am not too easy on the pedal. I am just waiting for it to :nuke:

Actually to add to that, I broke a long side axle shaft with the course pinion in there, so I dont think they are as weak as people play them off to be. I could be wrong maybe I have just had really good luck. I think the most important thing is to have a really good trac bar.

i beg to differ....i have never broken one, but thats because my springs and d-line were too rusty and old to hold up long enough!

but my buddy greg broke a course goin up the 3 steps of the slabs on the rubicon the other day. he has a very capable traction bar and it still went. we laughed! i also then asked the strength factor comparing to a fine spline......anyhow...my point is that even with a trac bar...shit breaks! hehe:rasta:

I just broke my third and final coarse spline pinion. Granted Glo ain't easy on the go pedal but still. I have broken 3 coare spline pinions and 1 fine spline.

I think the most important part of any toy pinion is a traction bar. Once I put the traction bar in the back of my beast, I had no more problems. Now I am breaking front pinions. :(

GLO, You are breaking FRONT PINIONS!
I don't think I've heard of anyone doing that...just rears going.

Anyway, here's some measurements for you:
(measurements taken using the flanges, not the actual pinion)

Coarse Cruiser 1.098" 10 spline
Fine Cruiser 1.107" 27 Spline
Dana 44 1.144" 26 spline

NOTE: Fine cruiser is identical to toy pickup.
