: blown CTM endcap!
tore the front end down to check spline's bearings, and do a lil cleaning on the front axle, and noticed the cap had some brass sticking out of it... only 1 cap like this, i had both axles out and in the solvent tank cleaning around the joint's checking today since they're a BITCH to get apart!!!
Looks like your knuckes are allowing the shafts to contact each other when turning, this may have contrubited to the failure...
DSI, boy oh boy with all that trouble you have with that dana you should think about upgrading to Longfields, nobodys broke those yet. Who knows maybe you'll win a set

Bwwwaaaahahaha - Newbie makes a funny.. and a good one at that! :p
jdjanda 06-10-2002, 08:14 AM Would that be considered a joint failure, or is the axle about to go? Could be the rubbing is forcing the ears out.

What he said. I just can't say enough about how useful steering stops can be:D

Ditto - I firmly believe that properly adjusted steering stops and a front ARB are why I never broke any birfields....
mrblaine 06-10-2002, 08:54 AM Just out of curiosity, what did Jack at CTM have to say? I am fairly confident that he will be more than glad to help you with any problem you have with those joints.
I do have to agree with the stop adjustment or clearancing of the yokes. Even the pins on those big joints don't enjoy a bunch of side load. That's how we broke one. Not the joints fault.
We also noticed we had started to extrude the bushing and can only relate it to the side load. The problem with the hardened yokes is that you don't get that little mark to be much larger no matter how much they are binding. The material is just too hard.
Give Jack a call, he will hook you up.

the joint's didn't bind with the knuckles fully turned either way when the axle was assembled and the stop's are tack welded so they can not be adjusted (factory settings for a 77 chevy)
hey TT, when toyota make's a full width housing... i'll run them, but till then, NOPE!
and i'm looking for Jack's phone number as we speak... so i'll let ya know what he say's, considering i posted them @ midnight!

Maybe so - but those marks show that it is hitting now.... So maybe you should figure out *why* the first ones broke so you don't have a repeat of the same thing ;)
