: Is the Smarty Box that much better?
tag@long 07-26-2007, 12:49 PM I have an 04 Cummins 4X4 with a Triple Dog/ Outlook combo. Everyone keeps telling me to pull the Bully Dog, run it over, and get the Smarty Box. Why??? Is there something about the T/Dog that is bad? And what makes the Smarty Box sooo much better?:grinpimp:
RSWORDS 07-26-2007, 12:52 PM Ability to read and clear codes... Not detectable by dealer (wont erase key logs)... Stacks AWESOME with a box (i.e. TST) Smoth usable power.
MattyB4x4 07-26-2007, 07:19 PM from what i've read the smarty doesn't make huge power like other boxes, but makes drastic low end improvements. Also...like stated above....improves power throughout the whole powerband. stack with a tst, you'll have a killer ride....and a toasted tranny...
rpm4x4 07-26-2007, 07:31 PM The smarty widens your powerband which really helps with towing. Hands down the smarty is my single most favorite mod. It made my truck fun.:grinpimp: I highly recomend it.

BigDan 07-27-2007, 02:54 PM I dont know who told you the Smarty doesnt provide alot of HP. Maybe your thinking of the 98-02 VP Smarty's. The Smarty CR is fucking awsome especially for your lame 03-04 ecm.
For 03-04 it +130hp and 04.5+ is 170 and the soon to be released versions are +200 hp and the 03-04 will be close behind.
Most if not all BD owners like the Smarty better. It make your truck drive like a gasser with instant spool and throttle resonce.
Hell just call Bob Wagner and he will let you try before you but adnt there a 100% money back garentee.
I let all my CTD buddys try it out and they all get hooked.
The Smarty actually gives you the advertised RWHP you will seriously gain 130+hp at the dyno.
Just try it and if you dont love return it
tag@long 08-02-2007, 01:45 PM Can I keep my outlook monitor to manage my egts? Will they work together?
Go2Guy 08-03-2007, 04:53 AM From what I've read- smarty is great if you like old school power with no relationship to old school gages.
I prefer to keep my Juice/ attitude which keeps track of things and defuels if I get close to preset parameters or get slippage etc. In some respects, the Smarty is not that smart- not slammin the product, cause some aspects are cool- I just don't want to be the "link" between the smarty and gages.
RockJeep92504 08-03-2007, 09:35 AM I am going to be beta testing the new crazy larry program for the triple dog. But I love my bd, and it reads and clears codes. And most dealers can tell you have a box without the key codes. There are boost and fuel rail pressure codes that are still present.
MattyB4x4 08-03-2007, 12:27 PM i guess i mispoke on that one...I didnt mean that it have a lack of power...just not that of a product like the tst...
guess bigdan would know best haha. btw BigDan, I hate you for how awesome your ctd is...what kinda power you putting down with that silver bullet....Or is it classified???
ScottFJ40 V2.0 08-04-2007, 10:34 AM If you have an automatic I'd read this before you consider the smarty.

bigdreamin 08-06-2007, 05:10 AM I like being able to select a power setting on the fly and not be at the mercy of whatever tune I download into the computer, my.02.

That looks like all 2nd gen issues to me...or am I missing something?

Hmmm, didn't notice that at all.
BigDan 08-23-2007, 12:44 PM From what I've read- smarty is great if you like old school power with no relationship to old school gages.

I wouldnt say OLD school since Marco seems to release new updated software every month or so.
So, is/does your J/A
* Have the ability to update and download new and improved and taylor made software?
*Able to clear and read codes?
*Able to adjust for larger/smaller tire size?
*Wont void your warranty as it doesnt leave any computer footprint and doesnt have to be installed. Having a J/A will definetly void your warranty.
*Able to select programs with reduced timing so you can stack wit other boxes?
*Give's you real world advertised RWHP The 170+hp program actually gives you a 170hp increase at the rear wheels.
* The best low end/ throttle responce/ turbo spool
* No annoying saftey shut down features, like a nanny looking over you
I'm not picking a fight and know were comparing apples to oranges. The Smarty is a Downloader and the J/A is a programer.
The J/A is more of a begginer newb way to increase HP and keep an eye on stuff since its an all in one package with built in features that will put the stop to your fun if it sences something that the programmers at edge decided that might hurt your truck.
I'd rather be in total control of my truck instead of having a programmer undermind me.
I dont like tiny digital read out gauges. Its much nicer and easier to have full sweep analouge gauges.
Most people that have a J/A dont know much about Cummins performance and didnt do much reasearch or only want a small hp gain and something with saftey features.
I am a Smarty guy who reasearched everything I put on my truck. I have a big turbo, Smarty, MP8 and a bunch of other stuff and like the power I have and always looking for more.
The one and only thing that I dont like about the Smarty is how it cant be adjusted on the fly. But that's just the nature of the beast since its a downloader.
There's a bunch of 600-700 HP guys that rely on the Smarty to make them big HP but not too many J/A guys at that level
Lance 08-24-2007, 01:56 PM The thing I don't like about the smarty is the INSANE amount of black smoke... It's undrivable around town unless you just want to piss everyone and get reported as a gross polluter. Other than that, it is INSANE.
