: fj45 run and raffle updates. thinking about doing something for fotr/blue ribbon
orangefj45 07-28-2007, 10:15 AM hey guys.
i've been sending out tons of emails to fellow board members, manufacturers, vendors and shop owners trying to drum up some raffle loot. so far, everybody has been very generous and the donations are starting to trickle in. thanks in advance to all the supporters.
if any of you guys can think of somebody who might be willing to support this event and raffle, please send them an email. anything will be greatly appreciated.
if you're not familiar with the raffle at the "fj45 run", then here's the scoop:
this event is my birthday party. so it's run and set up by myself along with the help of some friends. this is not an event that;s run/set up/organized/governed by any association or club. so the event is free and so is the raffle. i'm not trying to raise moneyt for anything. every participant receives one and only one raffle ticket. all the tickets get put in a hat and then we work our way thr them. once all the number have been gone thru, they all go back in the hat and we start over again until there are no prizes left. that way, everybody goes home with some raffle schwag. last year everybody won at least 3 priozes. some people won 4 or 5 prizes.
everybody who brings a 45 to the event gets a special ticket for the best raffle items. so they get an extra chance to win.
one thing i have contemplated is to charge a nominal "event entry fee" in order to raise some money for either "the blue ribbon coalition" and/or "friends of the rubicon". these guys put a lot of work and effort into making sure that our trails stay open for us all to enjoy. so supporting them is really helping ourselves. i was thinking something along the lines of $10 per person. that's a drop in the bucket compared what we spend on our rigs/gas/parts,..... just to make it to these events. please let me know what you guys think about this.
thanks again!
georg

bkcruiser 07-28-2007, 09:06 PM Hey George,
Good intention on the idea, but sometimes people feel slighted by charges for events. Maybe a good compromise would be a donation box instead?? Possably even get more for the cause that way too.
orangefj45 07-28-2007, 09:50 PM yeah, i'd hate to charge "admission", especially since the event has been a freebie gig since day one.
i guess a donation box would be a great idea.

The silly part about that is those people paid a minimum of $360 a head to be pampered on the trail. You'd think they could have kicked at least ten bucks a head to help the cause:(
Roksamy 07-31-2007, 04:41 PM Hey Kent , come by the shop tommorow , check out the progress on the Toy:smokin:

We've got a better draw than they do. No better place to see a record number of 45s gather. No better place in CA to eat a freshly roasted pig. No other place IN THE WORLD to watch Ryan make a fool of himself THAT weekend!:flipoff2:
Just put the collection hat in front of the buffet Georg; the lure of the pig will take care of the rest.:)

fj40charles 06-09-2008, 07:35 AM Sad to say it, but many Land Cruiser owners are about the cheapest people out there. Only VW TDI folks are cheaper.
Just cut back on 1.5 cups of Starbucks and pay the $10 and quit whining about
not getting everything for free.
Georg, I'll send you some raffle items.
Charles
Reddog 06-09-2008, 10:40 AM why don't you bring some of your "free" transfer case savers that you promised everybody on here?! whoops, i forgot, you sold them all. :shaking:
don't worry though, i'll have a few t-case savers there and they really will be free. maybe you'll win one?! :flipoff2:
PS: this is last-years' thread in case you did'nt notice. but i do appreciate the effort you're putting into attempting to being a pain in my ass when you're really only showing everybody on here what you're all about.:rasta:
count on it ....we will cross paths
last year, this year it don't matter. if it's in Deer Valley or Mud lake you will be in my neighborhood, almost like my back yard, lol
See ya
Reddog 06-09-2008, 10:53 AM keep talking Georg, talk is cheap, just like you:flipoff2:
orangefj45 06-09-2008, 12:04 PM back to the topic at hand; thanks to all the attendees, we managed to raise close to $1600 for the cash raffle. half went to the raffle winner and i sent a check for $800 to FOTR.
thanks again guys!!!!!
