Will someone please explain to me WTF is going on in the picture of the blue fj-40 rear stear buggy where it looks like its tryin to lift its leg and pee on the invisible fire hydrant? Forced "wrongticulation"? why does it look like the driver is bailing out?

He just parked it like that so people could take pics. After talking to him and watching him drive I knew I could never own a rig like that. I would need a second brain!! To many levers, pull the wrong one and it's going over. :D Would be cool to change tires though!!

so was it more of a "stop fj, sit, good boy. now pick up that back tire and i'll give you some gas" type thing or what? howd it do that?

Did you notice they disconnected the hydraulics from the rear axle before they ran the last course on Saturday? I wonder it if interfeers with it if you have to 'hammer it' up something?

Don't really know the reasoning, but I saw both the hydro trucks disconnect their rears..?

They were playing at Russ's camp Fri night...

Last course on Saturday was which one? Looks like it is connected in this pic if this is the correct course:

Only thing I can figure is that even with the valves open the fluid slows down the motion. Kinda like a Rancho 9000 on 1 and on 5.

Matt- I couldn't reply to your PM- your box is full. I was driving (when i didn't have my head in a dark place) the white nosed CJ with yellow and purple checkers- you know the one with the fresh scratches and dents on the roll cage, sheetmetal etc.
Thanks,
Ken

It would be hard to tell in the pic. I pointed it out to several people after I saw them working on the back of their trucks. The cylinder is still there, the shaft is disconnected and drawn all the way up into the cyl. If you notice, when he was trying to work the crest, he only sucked up the front level it out. the rear was standing at normal height all the time.

As you saw, it still wasn't enought to keep him from rolling. :rasta:

I had discussed this with Don (blue toyota) and Tracy (OD Green toyo)

you lose a lot of vehicle feel when you elect to use the hydro at 4 corners. Sounds like Don uses it more than tracy.

Don disconnected the back for the last obstacle on saturday. his logic was that he expected to have to roll into it from the bottom. the valving in the hydro cylinders, even in float, compromises the ability of the coil overs to work properly in this situation (fast response needed), this is why he disconnected them. Then he rolled before he ever got to try that line.

Thanks Ken.

Don has the coil-overs, thats the one I saw disconnected.

Dampning effect was what I had guessed, but when he took the angled approach on the crest I was not so sure.. Maybe a last minute change of plan, I bet he was kicking himself for that.. :)

I was surprised that it did not seem to add that much stability. Maybe because the rear was disconnected. He sucked the front down, but as soon as the RF lifted it was all over... :rasta:
