I'm going to be in the area the week before thanksgiving this year. Anyone going to be out there Mon, Tues or Wed, prior to thanksgiving? I'm thinking of towing the cruiser down and hitting some trails. I've been to the hammers once and would like to tag along with someone, if they didn't mind. 1970 fj40, slightly modded:grinpimp:

Damn, I saw your original post, but most of those pcitures were not in there. That is FAR worse than the cage that Apeters89 got his first time around. I know how you feel, I'm running my own business too and have had to pay for some work because I simply don't have the time for it. I've ahd better luck and found a shop that would work at night, to build the cage just how I wanted it. It wasn't practical for me to try adn do it at home, after work.

Do a driving directions to Landers CA, then back track 5 miles on 247.

How do you get to the Hammers from Bakersfield, Ca
Take Hwy 58 east to I15, then north on I15 a couple of miles to Barstow, exit and go south on Barstow Rd/Hwy 247 for 30 miles to Lucerne and a 4 way stop, turn left at the 4 way stop onto Old Woman Springs Rd/Hwy 247 and go 22 miles to Boone Rd, which only goes left and is a dirt road, follow for 3 to 4 miles to the dry lake bed.
BTW, we'll be out there the weekend before Thanksgiving if anyone wants to come and run with others on Sunday.

I have never been to Johnson Valley, and rarely go out on t-day weekend anywhere. So I have to ask how serious this is about crowding. I just don't feel like being around many people with the year I have had. I would love to come and meet some PBB peeps, even tho I don't have a rig. Will it be really bad out there this weekend?

Just talked to the wife, Johnson Valley sounds like more fun. We are planning on leaving late tomorrow night around 8-9. Should only take about an hour and a half to get there. Hope I don't get lost.
I looked up directions on google, anyone got better directions from French Valley/Murrieta area...
Give me an email and I can do a yahoo map from your general area right to the lakebed.
Edit: give me at least a good general area. Like the town you live in. No slang. Im new to Cali, but I do know exactly how to get there and plot it

Looking forward to finally meeting some people on here. Can't miss me the hauler is 24' long, 13'+ tall and WHITE. :D
Glad your going to make it to see what the hammers are all about, you'll have a blast! To get there if your going east on the 247: at the stop sign where the 247 starts you go like 23 miles and you'll se a big white arrow on the right side of the road, go about a mile past that and you'll see a sign on the right side of the road that reads something like "johnson valley OHV Boon rd." then make a left on the dirt road (there is quite a few JV signs just look for the boon rd one). Take it slow because its a little drop off. then follow that dirt road all the way and it will dump you off in the lake bed, the road was a little soft 2 weeks ago when I was there last.
Ill be out friday morning, hope to see everyone there!:smokin:

We technically live in Winchester, but we are closer to Temecula. From what I can see we will take 79 N thru Hemet and then east on 10 north on 62 and then north on 247. From google maps its about 80 miles. Not bad.

I would just like to thank the fawkhead Mike for deciding to take my rig for a ride on Friday night. What the hell went through your head???? Oh, this rig looks cool - lets take that for a spin. Fawking asshole!!! What the hell goes through someone's head to just up and steal someone's rig? Shit, just ask me to take it and guess what, no problem but to just fawking take it is so fawked up. I am pissed that it costs so much to give someone the ass beating with a pipewrench that they deserve. :mad3:

His friends about kicked his ass and told him to go and wake me up to let me know what he had done. He came down and told me that he asked me for a ride and I took him for a ride but left it out in the middle of the desert because I was too drunk to drive. I told him "bullshit, yes I got drunk last night but I left my rig at camp (2 camps up where I was hanging out because I was drunk and didn't want to drive drunk). He told me that I was really drunk and probably wouldn't remember so I called bullshit again. We got out to my broken rig (not really broken but my hydralic ram came unscrewed luckely or who knows where this asshat would have gone) and saw two footprint tracks one from the drivers and one from the pass., well guess what - drivers were his prints and pass. is unknown (I was wearing military boots with very identifiable prints) and he still tried to tell me that I drove so again I call bullshit and end up fixing my rig. His friends were stand up guys and pissed at the whole situation and let me know that he was never coming with them again. They were also pissed that he tried to tell me that I did it. I had a very good experience with EVERYONE I met this weekend except this jackass which you can see why.

Mike who and what rig? Was it just a "drunk buddy deal", or someone you didn't know?
I remove my steering wheel and pull some other protective precautions almost every night before I go to sleep. My dog and .45 are secondary response!
We all joke, about how the first guy to bed may find his rig on blocks, or rolled over in camp, but to date no one has messed w/ my shitbox. ;)
I hate to joke on your misfortune at all, if it wasn't a buddy deal. If it wasn't a buddy deal, then the "pipewrench" should be in order.

I don't think that he is on this board - he was with a group of GREAT people but was a bad apple that was a friend of a friend or relative-in-law so got invited. You guys won't see him again, everyone there assured me that he wasn't EVER going again. I wouldn't mind meeting him one more time with a video camera so I could post a little on here that was 35% for gore but at the time I didn't have all the details, I knew he wasn't right but didn't know he needed to have the shit kicked out of him. Yeah I have a steering wheel and a couple override switches and a few other items that will not allow my rig to be taken but it wasn't like it was in a hotel parking lot.
I hear you about the buddy thing but that is more of park it around here so he can't see it type of thing. I didn't know this guy and wasn't any part of a buddy thing.

Maybe if someone knows more details they can start a thread, but I was wondering if anyone knew what happened with the helicopter and medical attention that went out towards Sledge on friday. Must have been pretty bad if they tried to get a chopper out there.
Mustard Dog
11-26-2007, 01:20 PM
Is that where the chopper was going? We were kinda surprised at how long he circled for before coming down:confused:
TheTonka
11-26-2007, 01:47 PM
I was wondering about that as well. I heard it and stepped out to walk to dog and saw it circling. It looked like it tried to land a couple of times. The first time was on the east side of the lake but it kicked up a LOT of dust and flew off. I came back around over us and it looked like it tried to land again off the lake bed to the north in the brush but backed off again. From our location I could see a lot of flashing reds out in that direction and some flashing reds and oranges off in the direction of the highway, but I could not tell if they were emergency lights or not.
miguelitojeep
11-26-2007, 01:48 PM
yea he tried to land 3 times until he ran out of fuel. two of my buddys went on a co-op mission on a 110 to ge the info but didnt find out much. Just a guy screaming in pain:( hopefully he is alright. but yea the accident was right at the bottom of the lakebed heading to Sledge/jack

No, I was just in front of some guys that had wheeled this place for YEARS adn they said to crawl it till the front gets to the top and bail to the left side and it will bring your back around. It didn't look like the line to me but they had been there multiple times and said that was it. I tried it but there was a CAVERN under my drivers side rear tire that engulfed the whole 49" tire. I tried to spin it out but decided there was no point in breaking a shaft right there (first day) and backed it out (hooked up a winch line as backing was not really that much of an option as I had slid into this hole and was a little sideways). Backed to the piont that my rig was away from the hole and went right up idling.
