Where to wheel an H2 on the West Coast?

So there is talk of KT and I going on afamily wheeling trip with her family. Her step dad has an H2 which he really likes and has taken on some Hummer club runs or Hummer happenings (or something) I don't really have a good feeling about him incurring body damage.

I have driven and offroaded a few h2's and I have my opinions of them. I think that anything I could drive the F-150 (TTB, 4" lift, gears, detroit and 35's) thru w/o body damage or the TJ (all kinds of mods) thru at street pressure without lockers would be ok. It doesn't need to challenge us in the TJ, but we want a small challege for the h2.

Where do you guys like to go?

I am thinking about Red Lakes/Coyote lake outside of Shaver, possibly Bald Mountain or going to Big Bear and hitting Holcomb. (Holcomb is the only trail I know well in Big Bear)

If we decide to go some distance, I am thinking about Moab.
Other suggestions?

I have seen what happened to Rod Hall's h2 prototype on the Rubicon, so Iam thinking that would be a bad idea.

What happened to Rod Halls H2??He seems to know what he is doing so im suprised something happened.

He took a bunch of GM execs across the Rubicon in a prototype in 2002. The rookie drivers destroyed the botom of it quickly. I have never seen a "new" vehicle that beat down before in my life. I saw it as he was on the way to baja for a press trip. I floored it and the center section of the dash fell off.

I have done with H2's:

Most of the Moab trails, Rubicon, Deer Valley, SlickRock, and most every thing here in nor cal.

If you are down south, I've seen them do Big Bear, not sure about some of the Dusy/Shaver area trails, but we are headed down there in September.:grinpimp:

They are wide, but it can be a benefit too, they can peg the levo and still not tip over as long as they are going slow enough.

Pretty much anywhere is my guess. :D

Ditto what Bebe said. What trails to run depends more on the driver than the rig. The H2 is plenty capable in good hands. Haven't been to the Shaver Lake area yet so can't recommend anything down there. We run the trails around Bear Valley a lot. Its a little tight in some spots but they do great.

And if he doesn't have the Fabtech HD tierods, make sure he brings spares. :D

I am thinking I do not have the patience to lead him on that trail.

The H2 will go anywhere your F-150 will for sure. I wheel with a guy with a similar set up. Actually, in tighter trails and quick inclines, the length and rear overhang of the F-150 have cuased him to get stuck or unable to climb sections I did in the H2.

That's kind of what I figure. The f-150 doesn't have body protection so I am thinking we should be safe with the h2.

About 6 hours driving time. Stopped for Lunch, and a broken tie rod on an H2 (the only one who wasn't running FabTechs) got to Big Sluice around 5:30PM.

There were good drivers on this trip but some of us had done it before. Not bad for a first time out. We get better as we get more experience.

Tahoma to the Springs would be easy for him.

The ford isn't the issue. I generally use my TJ. I was thinking of the Ford as a gauge. If it wouldn't be a trip I would enjoy in the Ford, I likely wouldn't enjoy doing it with the H2.

We just did Bald Mtn. There's some spooky, but doable spots for a stock rig, but it should be perfect for a newbie. West lake is also a really good trail with good camping and some great fishing. Also check out onion springs at huntington lake.

Should be able to make red lake with the h2, but I'm not so sure about coyote there were plenty of tight squeezes between trees for my toyota pickup, and right after the gate that leads to the coyote trail is a very tricky rock section that would love to take a bite of the h2's sheet metal.

When I was at red lake there was a f250 crew cab that made it through so an h2 should be able to make it
