Has anyone here done a Engine and tranny swap in a older H1 to a Cummins or new Duramax 6.6? Looking into this because the 6.5 is junk.

There are several but you probally won't find that info here. I have seen two rigs with the swap and they move! Try humvee.net

predator motor sports does the duramax/allison conversions on H2's and H1's. H1 requires a 2" body lift (as they did on stock H1 alpha's). In an H2 you have to go with a diffrent T case (Atlas II) and it makes them extremely heavy.

Thanks for the info on the swaps. I think that I'm going to put a newer Cummins with a built 48RE with a manual valve body and an Art Carr shifter. I am undecided on a Transfer case. The Hummer I have is a 97 with a cracked block. Hopefully will have a swap thread going sometime next year on this project.

where did you get a hummer with a cracked block? I've been looking into getting a wrecked military Humvee to rebuild, haven't found any yet

I purchased the Hummer several years ago and it has been a great vehicle other than you cant park it anywhere. I have been told that there is a hummer recall on the 6.5 from 97 to 99 but haven't had any luck talking with anyone on the subject. Even If I do decide to have the dealer install an engine for free (which I doubt they would do) I would just sell the engine for what little cash that I could get out of it to help fund the 5.9. I will start this project next year sometime after I finish another project. Thanks for the link AtlantaK-5er.

One answer for Cummins swap into an H1:

Avalanche Engineering. Call and ask for the owner Steve Rumore. He drives an H1 with a biodiesel powered Cummins 6bt mated the the 4l80 transmission. That thing is a beast with that motor.

I saw Steve with the CTD H1 on Holy Cross last year. Very cool rig. Looked like a very clean swap. I was curious to how the portals/AMC diff stand up to the more power. (assuming it has more power I guess the TD 6.5 was 385 ft lb, and a lot of stock 12 valves are around 400 ft lb)

He's got it cranked up a bit and runs B100 biodiesel. The engine is mated to a built 4L80E and an unknown make of TCU to control the tranny. Everything else is stock (torsens, axle shafts, portal boxes). I am not sure what torque converter he runs but it does allow for some rpms before the tires start to spin. We ran Pritchett this last easter and that thing would get on a rock, and as he slowly applied power everyone would take a step back in anticipation of parts flying out :D Never broke anything but one has to wonder just how much torque those halfshafts can take.

Thanks for the input. This info will become invaluable in the coming months as I start to break everything down. Any know where to buy a CTD Crate motor without having to spend an arm and a leg. Ive been looking on ebay for a newer wrecked Dodge Ram but am having trouble finding one.

Thanks

Here's a 6.2 with a whipple supercharger on a 93. It's not a rocket, but it way better than stock.

Also, the 2006 H1 alpha has the D-max/allison from the factory. It required a two inch body lift and reworking the firewall I believe.
