did the 85 toys come with a higher gear ratio in the automatic

I believe the autos came with 4:56
I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong

i think they came with 4.30s but i could aslo be wrong

I have heard 4:30's with auto and 4:10 with standard

I couldn't tell if you were asking a "I'm curious about 85's question or determining what you have question". I have heard that pre-86, Toyota experimented with different ratio's before standardizing in 1986. If you have an '85. this link will help you figure out what you have based on the VIN plate:
