: Ultimate Tour, Pirate Style Part III - need leaders
Still looking for some trip leaders for some of the stops on the '02 tour. Again, it's not necessary to commit to actually BE ON the trail. Just need someone to coordinate at this point. You'd be responsible for suggesting meeting points, making vehicle recommendations, and even reserving spots if you need a limited group for your particular trail. Finding accomodations would also be helpful. Here's what we have planned & as you can see we're still missing leaders on many of the more hardcore runs:
(1) June 4th, 2002: Hammers in CA - need trip leader
(2) June 7th, 2002: Highway To Hell in AZ - JackA to lead
(3) June 10th, 2002: Proving Grounds in UT - Moab Austin tentatively scheduled as trip leader
(4) June 12th, 2002: Die Trying in CO - need trip leader
(5) June 15th, 2002: Gilmer, TX - wngrog to lead - no vehicle limits
-Drive 156 miles to Clayton, OK
(6) June 16-17th, 2002: Clayton, OK - wngrog to lead - no vehicle limits
-June 18th, drive 178 miles to Disney, OK
(7) June 19-20 Disney OK - Matt Green tentatively scheduled to lead
-June 21st, 2002 travel 326 miles to Montgomery City, MO
(8) June 22nd & 23rd: Mud Racing, tough trucking, & more in MO - lead by TEX. No vehicle limits, no max. #, no reservation needed.
-June 24th, 2002 travel 322 miles to Attica, IN
(9) June 25th, 2002: Badlands in IN on Troy's Trail lead by Syko and/or Woody
-June 26th, 2002 travel 320 miles to Slade, KY
(10) June 27th, 2002: Slade, KY - lead by Syko
-June 28th, 2002: travel 354 miles to Monteagle, TN
(11) June 29th, 2002: Monteagle, TN lead by DRM
(12) June 30-July4th, 2002 up to 4 stops in NC - lead by elusive
(13) July 6th, 2002: Big Dogs in VA - need trip leader (Hoyden says this must be approved)
(14) July 8th, 2002: Possibly in the Adirondacks - yjtj tentatively scheduled to lead
(15) July 12th, 2002: Paragon, PA - need trip leader - Hoyden scheduled to lead, yjtj might be able to help.
(16) July 15th, 2002: Silver Lake Sand Dunes in MI - JimL tentatively scheduled to lead
(17) July 17th, 2002: Trails in MN - possibly lead by Dana 27 and/or Dangerber
(18) July 20th, 2002: Black Hills - lead by ChinLei & WillyMutt (probably in 2 groups)
(19) & (20) July 21-31, 2002 Two stops in Northern Rockies en route to Rubicon - need trip leaders
(21) August 1st, 2002: Rubicon - need trip leader(s)
(22) August 5th, 2002: Oregon and/or Washington - need trip leader(s)
(23) August 8th, 2002: Somewhere in BC - Whizzy scheduled to lead
(24) August 14th, 2002: Somewhere in Yukon - lead possibly by ColdNorth
So, who wants to fill in some of these blanks?

YOUR NUTZ!!! No way a rig will hold up to that many trails one after another!! Better save the hard trails for the end!!
JeepZJ 09-21-2001, 08:30 AM That is one hell of a list. If I can do half of those trails in my lifetime I would be happy.

Actually, due to the sheer amount of time involved, I seriously doubt anyone will even attempt to hit ALL the trails. But, figure some folks will hit stops 1-4 & go home. More will join in around stop 3, stay through 6 & then go home. More jump in around 5, stay 'til 9, then go home, etc, etc, etc. Some might hit as few as 1 stop. But, the idea is to keep it as a continuous tour even if the last stop doesn't have a single person left from stop #1.
Picture the tour like the Pony Express. The mail traveled on horseback non-stop, but just not on the same horse the whole way

P.S. Lance made the suggestions for stops 1-4

That's the real point. There have been a handful of West Coast "meet & greet" events, but this'll give BBS folks from all over a chance to meet over the course of a few weeks.

RockRanger 09-21-2001, 11:18 AM Has anyone added all of the miles that this trip would be. That would be fun. One suggestion might be to start with the rubicon trail then go to the hammers from there. That way from clorado you can head north to Oregon instead of dropping back down into california.
Matt
TTURokToy 09-21-2001, 01:33 PM Have you let any of the mags know about this trip? I'm sure they have the money to send people along that could make every run.
I should be able to make the gilmer, clayton and disney runs.
TTURokToy 09-21-2001, 01:35 PM Another suggestion! Why don't you start at the rubicon and end at the rubicon since you are calling this the Pirate Ultimate Tour.
I may be willing to take on #16.
Paul Gagnon 09-21-2001, 05:14 PM That's a great idea! There's just one thing, if people are going to go all the way up to the Yukon then you might as well add Alaska to the list too, it's right there.

Actually, someone contacted one of the mags on the first thread we put on on this subject. They acted like it sounded like a great idea, but that the $$$ wouldn't be there for them to cover the whole thing. HOWEVER, we didn't have any of it specifically planned at that point & it was pretty much agreed by those of us here that if we set it up, "they" would cover it

Absolutely willing to consider additional stops added, especially at the beginning or end of the trip. HOWEVER, I'm not penciling in any extra stops until someone volunteers to lead them

Sloan 09-24-2001, 07:40 AM I can get the time off of work I don't know if the 40 would be up for all that though. I might be up for doing the video diary by then though (custom camera rigs since that is what I do).

Screwzer 09-24-2001, 02:21 PM How about I just quit my job, drive as much as I can, when it breaks down, stck out my thumb for a ride on the rest. Sounds great!
Hoyden 09-24-2001, 03:29 PM I can probably help out with #15 - As far as #13 - We need to know how serious y'all are about this - the promotors of Big Dogs might be persuaded to run an event just for this crazy ride, but they generally only do three events a year at the Gore location and none of them are in July - They are opening a new extreme trail next year and it will be insane -

JackA 09-24-2001, 08:55 PM It's sure hot here in June. I can't wait to show you guys the AZ trails. Bring lots of water.

i may be able to help with 14 and 15 the northeast and paragon. i could prolly set up a ride in the adirondacks with the help of some friends. the paragon thing would need to be okd by kyle the park manager make sure the date is open and he would want his guides to guide. i have set up rides there to so it can be done and id be willing

What do you mean?? Everybody would probably drive down I-25 right through NM on their way to Texas
Actually, I pointed this out on one of the earlier threads...Is there any good trails on the Eastern slope so we wouldn't have to back track? Are you volunteering to lead a run?

If you AZ & NM guys want to add some stops along the way, we can always push the start date of the "tour" up to the end of May - assuming JackA & Moab Austin don't have a problem with having their dates changed.
BUT, no changes unless you guys are going to step up & suggest specific trails and then lead them

Any number of local people would be more than happy to trail lead such a group coming to the Farmington area.
As a matter of fact, Lance and Lisa are getting the Grand Tour as we speak!
OK, so here's the idea ...
Plan on one day at the Rock Garden just 12 miles West of Aztec NM (25 miles West of Farmingon).
Aztec is on Hwy 550 and is 40 miles South of Durango CO and about 3.5 hours SouthEast of Moab.
I'll be happy to turn you'all loose in the 'Garden' where there are probably more obsticles and climbs from 4 to 10+ per square yard than any other place in the country. It would be like turning a small class room loose in a big empty theme park...
Check out the forth coming pics from the just completed SkyJacker Women's Championship
and see for your self ...
