I'm considering putting a Ramjet 350 in my CJ-7. I checked with my local dealer today and his price is $6225.00!!!! I thought these things could be had for something north of $4000.00. Anybody know the real deal and where people are buying them? Please don't go into how to build all my own stuff and where to get fuel injection etc. I have a really good motor in the Jeep now and have pretty well researched the fuel injection suppliers I just want the true skinny on the Ramjet before I pull the trigger on something.

I think jegs has them for $4500, also on a similiar note, I heard that because of he computer controling all the engine functions you cant do much to the engine like swap heads et cetera is this true?

Ben Haines has a 80 Wagoneer with a Ramjet 350 setup.. here is his site... he maybe able to steer you in the right direction for good pricing...

I would *suggest* looking into adding the www.azspeed-marine.com O2 sensor conversion kit. As the Ram Jet comes from the factory, it does not have an O2 sensor, and therefore uses no air/fuel feedback............in my opinion (and maybe others :flipoff2: ) not a good idea. The Ram Jet is a great setup that can be made better.............$495 from ASM covers the whole package including reprogramming of the computer.

any concerns that they are only 2 bolt mains?

I'm not concerned about 2 bolt mains. My Jeep very seldom sees more than 3 grand and with the Ramjet making max power at 5200 I still don't think it's a problem. Something to think about though.

ok, I'm not an engine expert so let me know if this is a dumb question, can you bolt a ramjet intake manifold and fuel injection stuff onto a rugular old 4 bolt main 350? do you need special heads? I'm considering getting a crate 350, (the basic $1400 version) and wondered if I could upgrade it to fuel injection down the road?
I assume there is an cheaper way than the ramjet parts, but what all is different?
thanks:confused:

You can do anything to an EFI motor that you can to a carb motor, you just need to burn chips for it. You can get the equipment to do this for around $250

The ramjet FI intake and ecu is not available alone. ONLY as a complete engine. And according to GM they do not plan on releasing it as a bolt on kit.:(

I am not 100% sure but I believe that the Ram jet uses Vortec heads on the engine. If that is the case then the intake manifolds are Vortec specific and can not be used on a regular old style 350 (like a 882 head or similar). If you want to upgrade to fuel injection in the future using old style 350, you would probably have to do Tbi type injection. If you feel really adventurous you could do a camaro Tuned port injection but that would require modifying the intake manifold to clear the perimeter style bolts on the valve cover.

Ha! You're in luck. I am, as we speak, converting my 80ish 350 with Edelbrock performer and 4 barrel Holley to GM TBI, using all stock (mostly junkyard) GM parts (except the square bore to TB adapter, which a machinest made for me).

It's not terribly complicated (in theory), and the GM TBI is really nice as it is relatively cheap, plentiful, and uses a minimum number of sensors (as compared to say a Jeep MPI). And as someoen said...the really beautiful thing about the GM ECM (TB or TPI) is that you can remove the PROM or EEPROM and completely re-program it, relatively cheaply and easily....so the sky is the limit.

The other option, of course, is the Meagsquirt....which is a wickedly cool thing, but a bit beyond my soldering abilities :p

Anyhoo - I am sure to do one of my ridiculously long and detailed articles on the swap (think, if I took 60 pics of a simple winch rebuild !!!:flipoff2: ) but it likely won;t hit the street until spring....(bloody cold garage:flipoff2: )

I would try scoggin dickey I was looking there for a new motor for my 95 GMC truck. their prices are quite competitive. Shipping isnt bad and they do mad volume. I would NEVER in a million years walk into my local Chevy dealer and pick up a crate motor unless someone from my family owned the dealership.

My two local dealers are showing this:

Jim Pace - $4789.17

Greenwood Chevy - $4675

I was at Greenwood the other day and I thoguht their board in the parts room showed a lower price though.

IFIK, all the crate motors have center bolt valve covers. I think the motor he is talking about is the one I have (says "Goodwrench 350" on the valve covers); not positive, though, as I bought it used.

do what now? we put a tuned port on a smallblock my brother built and had no problems with the valve covers with old 4bolt perimeter style covers. jsut thought I would throw that out there so people don't get confused
