Has anyone ever taken a front axle of a 78-79 bronco or pickup with the coil sprung front axle and swaped it under a later model ford truck? Will the coils hit the spring plates on the later frames and will the radius rods for the straight axle go to the stock radius arm brackets? Have a friend with a 88 F-150 with a fuel injected 5.8 and C-6. And would like to convert it from ttb.

if i read my chiltons right, it should be close. looks like the ring gear and outer shafts are interchangeable and the hubs if theyre not auto's. had to cut and move everything to fit one under my b2. best bet is to measure from the center of the coils on both rigs. i moved mine in or i would run measure em for ya.

the radius arms on the solid axle are quite a bit longer than on the ttb.

I used a 79 D44 for a little while until I got the RC60 setup. The stock brackets will work (actually better than the 78/9 IMO because they don't hang very low) they just need to be moved back the correct amount.

You can even keep the same coil towers you have and bolt the spring right in. The 78/79's coil towers were actually a couple inchec narrower so the coils bow slightly but it never caused me any problems.

The only think you really need to fab up is a track bar bracket, and depending on how much lift you after you may need to trim the front cross member some. It's actually a pretty easy swap.
