I'm pulling the weak 1.3L carb engine and installing a 1.6L EFI engine out of a Tracker. I'm not one to buy aftermarket kits - I usually figure out how to make stuff work as I go - make my own brackets, etc. Has anyone out there done this swap without a kit? Any info you can pass along before I get started?

Thanks

All the kits consist of is a adapter plate and motor mounts. I guess you could build the adapter plate pretty easy if you had a plas and some cardboard to make a template. Or you could use a tracker 2 wheel trans and just fab up motor mounts and a intermediate shaft.

I love to build a lot of my own stuff as often as I can but you are looking at about $150 for a basic kit with adapter and mounts. As much as I like to do my own it is not worth the time and effort. After you buy the hardware and materials how much will you really save.

I agree with the above post. I build all my own stuff as often as I could. However the adapter plate between the trans and engine needs to be precise. It was so cheap to buy the kit from petroworks that even I just went ahead and bought one. I dont remember dollars but I was surprised cuz I dont think I could have made it any cheaper. I love my 1.6 conversion.
