Ok , im new to this forum and to jeep driving in gereral. I have opened my diffferentials and they had dirt and water in them. I changed the rear seal and then put the new oil in after I cleaned the dirt out that i can see. Well i opened it again today about a week after the fist time i open it. It still had a little dirt in it but no water this time it had the oil in it. I also noticed a slite oil drip from the nuckle that ataches to my wheel(a drop here and there not bad at all). I was wondering is this little bit of dirt going to do any major damge to the gears and differential in gereral or will it be fine if i just keep on changing the oil until it is clean.

What would everyone else do in my case ( remeber im not a mechanic)

Thanks

i would call dynatrac and replace your worn out weak unit with a new 60. :flipoff2: welcome to pirate4x4.com. better do some reading.

oh ya do a few oil changes and just run it till she blows. then upgrade.

We usually just let the dirt and water build up in them...wait till winter, pull the cover, and most of it comes out in a block...then we use a torch to remove the rest. :flipoff2:

Sounds like a bad axle seal, not worth replacing on a Dana 30.
Not even a D27 but I think the cutoff year for those was 71?
If you wheel much, you'll be replacing that front axle down the road. So I wouldn't worry about it.

What kind of damage is the silt or really fine dirt going to do to the gears and axles and how long is it going to take for the dirt to start causing damage?

Thanks

Thanks They can take dirt better than they can take abuse. :flipoff2:
Just wheel it!

Think about it. You've got dirt with gears and bearings. It does damage immediately. On any dana axle I've messed with the axle seals are pretty easy to replace. Don't know about yours tho. Get yourself a book or some instructions and fix it.
