I am looking at job with Boeing around the Huntsville area and am completely unfamiliar with the area.
What is the cost of living like?
What are the tax laws on autos (tags, property tax)?
What are some of the better areas in the Huntsville area but not IN Huntsville?
What is the style of life like (Nightlife, Recreation, Cultural Makeup, Schools, Etc.)?
Thanks guys,
Aaron

If you like fishing there is more than you will ever need. Look into Hampton Cove for some nice living. Schools in Huntsville I am not sure of. Not sure of what your cost of living is like around there. But here it is relatively cheap. Also look into the towns of Gutersville, Arab, and Scottsboro. There are all within an easy 4 lane drive into Huntsville. Scottsboro being the longest at about 40 miles. Then you are 1 hour drive from Gray Rock. And about 3-4 from Tellico. Send me a PM if there is anything else you would like to know or if I can find out for ya.

Night life is decent in Huntsville, better down around Bham. No idea on schools, but a friend near Athens likes their system. There are also a few other small wheeling areas w/in an hour of HSV. And yes, they abbreviate the same as Herpes Simplex Virus.......go figure!

:shaking: Welcome to the south, i use to live near H'ville currently live in Birmingham. Great wheelin in south, there is a off road park just south of H'ville (Rock City Rock Crawlers), there is also a great place 1 hour south in Gardendale, (Gray Rock), just north 30 min, (summer town ORV), mount Eagle, TN 1 hr east toward Chattanooga, TN, Tellico in Murphy NC 3-4 hrs east.
House taxes: very reasonable: average 200K house 1K annual.
Schools: Public schools are good, not in the city but in the county. several private schools available.
Huntsville in located in Madison County, AL. as you know Redstone Arsenal is the big boom in town, Marshall Space flight center, AMC, LOGSA, IMMC and other government contract companies. A few more airlines have added service to Huntsville since hville is the fastest growing city in AL and in the top 10 nation wide. great fishing and hunting available and golf about 360 days a year.

A new offroad park is in the works in Cullman county but I expect it to be mild compared to Gray Rock AND it will be a multi-use park.

Huntsville is pretty cool. My buddies and I used to go there to visit the clubs (of the gentlemens type) years ago. I moved to TN about 8 years ago. If you are looking for very affordable housing stay out of Huntsville or Madison. We've been doing a lot of work in Madison and it is booming, i.e. higher prices. If you don't mind a little driving, get about 25 miles away. That could be in almost any direction. Don't forget they have a decent little Interstate bypass. I am originally from Florence, AL and have family there, Madison, and many of the surrounding cities. Members also moved for work reasons. Hartselle is a nice little town. On the wheeling note, there are tons of good wheeling spots within 1.5 hours of this area. Almost any direction, not real sure about west of Huntsville, but head north, south, or east and you are guaranteed to find something to climb. And yes, that area has some of the country's best fishing spots(if you like fishing).

Well I made the move from Kansas/Missouri to Alabama. Pdaddy made the move from Paola, KS to B-ham, AL. I'm over in Huntsvegas...
Pdaddy and I both love it down here. More wheeling, and the wheeling is alot more fun. The coolest thing about Huntsville, is that you are 2 hours from Morris Mountain, two hours from Grayrock, about two hours from Summertown, and two hours from Nashville. Huntsville has some things to do, but it gets redundant. But if you really like wheeling, it's definitely the place for you. I don't plan on ever moving back to Kansas or Missouri.

Thanks for the replies guys.
I know PDaddy from wheelin in Disney before he moved. I love wheelin so that along with everything you just mentioned I should enjoy it.
Looks from the pics like I'm gonna have to upgrade my Yota motor to a V-8 and 1 tons in order to be able to hang with any of you SE Guys.

Might as well go on and get to work on the rig! Even if you don't need the V-8 and one tons, they're still cool to have.

Dan, very cool that you're opening a store in B'ham!!! May have to come check that one out. Dothan is a bit further than I like to drive the TJ (4cyl).
I'll keep an eye on your site to find out when. Whereabouts in B'ham is it opening (north/south)?

Well you aren't exactly required to have a big motor down here, but it's more ideal lol...
I won't have a big motor for a while. This 345'll have to do

we are also thinking about moving to Bama....we are looking at the Decatur/Danville/Hartselle area. I have a buddy that lives in Danville, right down the street from some land they are about to start cutting trails on, supposed to be like Gray Rock or Morris Mountain...
I think we are on the one year plan or so to head that way, as long as we can find jobs. We have been researching the price of homes in that area and it is realitively cheap, especially compared to here in a Jacksonville....
I grew up in IN with tons of land to roam around on and now I live in a subdivision.....I am ready for that land again and a better place to raise kids, when we have them.
