: Looking for hardtop
CruisD64 06-11-2002, 12:00 AM I've posted this before with no luck, so I'm gonna try again. Does anyone have a tan hardtop in the Bay Area or near that they wanna sell? I dont wanna get another color and sell, I'm looking for original tan. The dark one. It must be ambulance door style so 75-up.

CruisD64 06-11-2002, 11:02 PM I am picky, I know. I just don't wanna deal with painting the inside and everything and I want my cruiser to look good. :) Now you can't argue with that now, can you?
The Jerk 06-12-2002, 02:10 AM yeah i can, i need money, you need a top, i have a sweet set of everything you need for cheap, all u have to do is paint it, not deal with painting it, jsut PAINT it! jiMMy
woody 06-12-2002, 05:48 AM GOOD LUCK finding a top that's the right color...now, be sure you ask not only the color, but if it sat outside, so any paint fading from the past 25 years matches the fade on yours....after all, if it's been garage stored, it may not be as faded as yours.
BUT WAIT!!! You say your always faced West?? Well, then, make sure the top is more faded on the drivers side since it would have faded even more....
What about elevation?? A northern CA hardtop, because it spent it's life in different elevations and humidities, likely had its color change ever so slightly relative to the color of your top....
And PLEASE, when you do find it, make sure you take your truck up there and check for color matching in sunlight, incandescent, flourescent, sunrise and sunset, and any other possible light variation, since they will ALL make the colors different.
Paint it yourself, and it'll run less than $100. Have a shop paint it and it's gonna be $250 or less. I can't imagine anything easier to paint than a Cruiser hardtop....you can even disassemble it to ensure all the seams match....
fj40guy 06-12-2002, 07:08 AM Woody,
I'm sure some lab could use high intensity strobe lights to get the fade looking just right for a perfect match. :rasta:
Meanwhile.... back in TEXAS I have two rear ambulance doors for a aFJ40. Rusty bottom's, but they are FREE! Someone already snagged the hardtop and side panels (free!), but left the doors behind. Off to the scrap metal heap they go unless someone wants to pick them up (not worth it to ship them).

CruisD64 06-12-2002, 08:53 AM You guys are funny. But seriously, its a pain in the ass to paint the inside and if I paint the whole hardtop I may as well paint the entire car and I'm not about to do that. I was thinking of painting it myself but I need to find the time to do that. I just posted this hoping someone would have it. It's not like its a crazy post. orangefj45 said there is one for sale for 200 bucks. Thats a good deal. I'd rather pay 200 then have to go through the trouble of painting it myself right now. I have other priorities. Even if the tan is faded to a different color, by the time I do have to repaint it, it'll only be on the out side and if I have it done professionally, will be considerably cheaper than painting the inside. Plus, with the top being two-tone, that just raises the cost even more.
DCruiser138 06-12-2002, 10:05 AM you are aboslutly right! painting is just way too fawkin out of line! so...why not save yourself the trouble, and sell the cruiser to someone who is gonna rattle can it olive drab, and go buy a new jeep. i mean....the choices are obvious right? anyone else have a better idea than that...let me know! cause hes totally right. my doors are still green and god forbid i paint them.....im just gonna drop the cruiser off at the dump where it belongs with all the other junk.....i mean...PAINT?! are you kidding me?....i agree Cruised65 and i thank you for setting me straight!

CruisD64 06-12-2002, 11:28 AM I give up. I guess I'd better just sit back and take it all in. I still want a tan top though :)

I got one. However the tan, is covered by 3 possibly 4 layers of different color paint. Most recently "Danger Orange" So you don't have to paint at all, you just have to do some creative sanding.

Doors? What are those?
orangefj45 06-12-2002, 09:03 PM how about creative beadblasting, have you considered that option?:flipoff2:
looked for the # for ya, but it's not in the new penny saver. i'll check with a buddy to see if he kept the ad.
are you sure it won't be too much trouble to drive 100 miles to check out a top?:rasta:
CruisD64 06-12-2002, 09:38 PM naw, it won't be too much trouble, I just did some engine work to my cruiser and need a nice long drive to see how well it does.
Big DW 06-18-2002, 09:55 PM I have a white top that has some cool blue pin-stripping...you could smear some turds on it and probably get the color your asking for....LOL!!! LOL!!! I crack me up some times!!!:flipoff2:
