I just swapped in a auto into my 89 YJ 2.5L. Started fine and ran well. Was backing it out of the garage and it died. No sputter, just shut off. Found a blown fuel pump/lamps fuse.
Replaced the fuse and now with the key in the on position the fuel pump kicks on to prime but doesnt shut off. I can crank the motor but it wont start.
The weird thing is, when I backed it down the driveway it ran fine. Had it running in the garage for 30 minutes so I could finish filling the trans with fluid.
As soon as I got into the street I put it in 2hi and drive drive and it died. I just cant understand why the fuel pump is running constantly. It wont stop its priming stage.
Tried replacing the relay, making sure it had gas, readjusting the cps, and checking all my connections. Seems that its not getting spark from the coil either.
I checked and rechecked all of the fuses, connections, and wires. Everything was good.
I replaced the ICM, coil, and fuel pump relay. Nothing changed, still no spark off of the coil. Key in the on position still causes the fuel pump to cycle on to prime, but not shut off. If I crank it for 10 seconds the pump will shut itself off until I turn the key off and back on. I am assuming the Auto Shutdown relay is working fine.
I went through all of the diagnostics in the FSM and everything checked out correct.
Any ideas?
