hey guys

my girlfriend is throwing axle ideas around and it looks like the ford 8.8 out of a 97+ explorer w/disc's is the way she wants to go. the upside is she can get a 373 and bolt it right under until she's ready to regear.

the one thing is she wants a full floater incase soemthing breaks. do any of you guys know of a kit to buy, or have a list of stuff i could rape from other axles and make work on this for her?

its going under a 98 tj with 373's, ill be doing most of the work on this so getting it done isnt a biggie.

lemmy know thanks guys

Disc brakes on the 8.8" will retain the shaft int he event of a c-clip failure. Warn makes a FF conversion for this axle, although I have only seen it in 5 on 5.5" They run about $500. Try a search because I don't think anyone has pirated a FF kit for the 8.8" Its probably more trouble than it's worth.

To my knowledge, Warn stopped making the FF kit for the Ford 8.8" axle.

Also, 1995 was the first year for discs on the Explorer 8.8" axles. That gives you two more years to look for at the junkyard.

Last time I checked, Warn had discountinued the full floater kit for the 8.8"

Moser makes c clip eliminators for $140 per pair http://www.moserengineering.com/moser_interior/products.asp?CatID=2 Reider Racing also makes them and makes one for the Strange 33 spline axle shafts, too. So you could beef up the shafts eventually, if you wanted/needed. Look at places that sell racing parts. Lots of guys are running 8.8s on the track.

if you are keeping the 373s you aren't putting big tires on it any way so just run it.

the C-clip eliminators are for drag strip use, not 4wheeling, and they will likely leak.
