I just recently puchased a truck that was said to have a rebuilt 350 in it and it only had like 5 miles on it , but it sat for 15 years with out being started , when I got the truck and inspected the engine it seemed to be that the story was true , there was no grease on anything and when I opened it up there was very little to no carbon on anything . My question is , what should I do with it , should I tear it down and replace all the seals and gasketss or just leave it as it is a try to put it into my jeep? How long can these things sit with out having any kind of damage?

The only thing that may be bad is the valve seals, if it dont smoke, run it.I have seen motors run that have sit longer than that, and be fine.

Was there any oil in it? If so, pull the pan and see if you can see that prelube stuff used on new motors for their first start up. If it's in there, then the motor is prolly new enough to be okay. If not, then the rings prolly are seated and then dried up which would make it an oil burner.

I got a great deal on the same type of motor. Mine only sat for 7 years though and it is a high performance, 10.25:1 CR 350. ($400) It's already in the Jeep. The only thing I am doing with it is replacing some gaskets because I am converting it to TPI. I say put it in and go with it!

My 383 sat for 8 years and I ran it I dont see a couple more years making that big a difference.

when i bought my 45 wagon it had the V8 in it and had sat for about 20 years. i pulled the intake and rebuilt the cab, replaced the cap, rotor, plugs, wire and oil and fired that bitch up!
that was 5 years ago:D

Nice to hear you guys !!!!, I was worry because this weekend my 3 year sat engine will fire up for the first time in my Jeep. I guess it can wait for a couple of decades.
I did the swap and I'm finishing the last details. Anyway, I think it's a good idea to spill some oil in the cilinders for the first time....
Hope everything goes ok
