I still do not have the scout in my possesion, but I will in a week or so.
I am looking forward to working on this scout, I wont put a ton of money into it, just fix it up with some new paint, apolster(sp?) the bench seat, bedline the interior, and possibly replace the axles with a pair of d60s with better gearing.

Now be advised, the guy I am getting this from, did a very temporary steering mod. so he could move it around, it will be fixed. and as for the shackles, that problem will be fixed as well.

not much work needs to be done, other than paint, and a switch panel in the open space. also looks to need a repair patch on trans tunnel pass side.

If I could find a complete v8 that would mate to the tranny, I prolly would, for $300 or so.

By the way, what tranny would that be?

I've got a real good running 304. Recently rebuilt, no smoke. It's already pulled with a rebuilt 727 behind it. Its in southeastern kansas if u want 4 cheap.

What do you mean by that?

By that I mean...this thread is about a rig that you don't even have yet...or maybe you finally have it right now...

This thread is about how this is a BB quality...how you are going to "paiiiint it" and make the seat "allllll pretttyyyyyy" and shit...

No body gives a fuck about that kind of stuff here...

You need to get the thing into your fucking posession and::::

1. Go over every weld that was involved in that axle swap...
2. Redo the steering...Shackles etc...
3. Re-power it (all of it)...

Right there you will be out more than "a little bit of money"...

That is what I mean by interesting you dolt. I am so interested I am going to subscribe to this thread...so I never miss one of your size 14 mis-steps...

Don't mind the heckling...

We love you...

the reason for the thread is, from what i have seen the scout owners on this site are not hardcore idiots like all the other wheelers on this site. but i guess there is always one.

I am not going to be like every other self proclaimed fabricator on this board and hack up a classic 4x4 just so i can show off my fabricating skills. Sure its nice to see a tubed linked custom build, but some people might want to see something restored that can do just about anything the hardcore rigs can do and that i will have less than $1k invested in.
ohh enjoy the thread.

Posts: 14 Tow Bar, flat towing a scout

i think i am going to flat tow the scout behind my psd. good or bad idea?
the scout is on 36"ers and isnt that lifted. if i can buy one cheap, i will buy it, but i was thinking of just making one.

for the scout mounts, i have seen shackles that have a bolt through the center for this reason, i have room to do that, once again good idea or bad?
should i make mounts on the frame insted?

Awesome does not equal what I will think when that bitch is yard sale'd all over the freeway with a fucking towbar pointing straight to the heavens...

Took me about 2 minutes to find that on the first page of your posts. Who knows what else is on here.

Everybody's a newbie at some point. Just because you started a few years earlier than this kid doesn't mean you need to play Billy Badass on the internet.

I had a 75 Scout with the 196 four banger. 4 speed. 4.10 gears. Put 30x9.50s on it. It did really well on the trails. plus it got 22+ mpg on the highway, even though it was buzzing its brains out. I believe the 4 cylinders had the same bellhousing pattern as the V8 motors. I know they used the same dist, exhaust manifold, and head as the V8s. I even used a V8 dist cap on mine, just skipped every other hole.

The towing post was the only thing bad I saw in honesty(exception: PO stuff). Thats just dumb.

Past that have fun with it and prove the nay-sayers wrong. If not then leave the PBB and never look back. There are other sites that will meet your needs if thats the case.

Did you read the forum FAQs?

Klasick68

Looks like ya have some work to do cleaning up the PO's mess of shit, but atleast you have a good example of what NOT to do for steering and suspension. There is lots of good info on building your shit here, most of it has already been covered to some extent, so search will be your friend, The whole Hardcore/Non hardcore thing is pretty tired IMO, Build to fit how ya wheel, have fun, and don't kill yourself or others towing it home (flat towing blows goats......).

he has a homemade car hauler i might buy if it looks good, and sell it when i get back here, make it easier to get home, the flat tow, was before i knew about the steering and shackles. so im not wild about that

X2. Strap the Scout down by the frame, not by the axles. It'll keep the scout from bouncing up and down as you are towing it.

ohh jeez, lets not debate this.

i will strap it how i strap other rigs.

chain on rear two ratchets on front axles, AND one front and one rear from the frame to suck it down.

Blind Driver
08-11-2007, 12:19 PM
That's why car/truck frames have notches cut out in them and the tow truck guys have chains with the end that fits into the notches that are cut out in the car/truck frames :D. Although many don't seem to know that :shaking:

Strapping to the frame will keep the truck from bouncing up and down while at speed. I've seem some scary ass shiat going down the highway bouncing up to a foot :shaking:

And axle housings will bend.

Blind Driver

Be sure the ones in the rear are holding the vehicle trying to pull it backwards so if you hit the brakes, the scout won't "catch" you. I normally used a winch and that was used to pull the slack out of the rear chains and pulled the front down.

well i got the scout, but the day i got it, i traded it and some axles and other stuff for a 05 kingquad, luckily the scout will be built into a buggy, i heard talks of an atlas going in, so for me, this build isntgonna happen, but i got something even better, and the scout will get built how most of yall like them.
