I am going to move my perches inward on my toyota axle, I suppose any old con-fer or whatever perch will work - just wondering if anyone had any suggestions before I go buy some..

theyre easy / cheap to make if you have the tools. or check out a machine shop.

for the cost some things aren't worth fabbin though, I could use a hole saw and square tube, then cut the end of the tube n cap it but my gawd that just sounds like work :flipoff2:

Hmm I work next to a steel shop, maybe I will go that route - what size tube would ya suggest? Using YJ springs..

3.5x3.5x1/4" square will fit those 2.5" wide YJs right nice. :D

Your right there... but its not to bad really....my first set I made with 2.5 x 2.5 1/4 wall tubing and a hole saw...what a PITA. My last set I used the same stock and cut em out with a torch....MUCH easier...just a lil grinder work and they were golden :D

I tried getting those since they were atainable locally, but they were on BO everywhere, so I went with the $15-20 Summit ones. This was for the rear, the fronts were made from tube by a friend since they had to both be custom...

I like the idea of the 3 hole MORE ones but if I remember right they are prices..

can't go wrong with less than $15 ea - would cost me more for the hole saw that I'd ruin doing it..

brandon, well kept secret of mine, (no longer) just buy them at the junk yard... ford broncos and f150's have 2.5w x about 5.5"l .250 thick spring perches u-bolted to the front axles, used for the sway bar mounting. They're a perfect fit and a good size. I totally agree- they are not worth the trouble of making...

All Pro now has 3 hole rear perches for $39 a set - instock. The three holes allow you to choose the position of the rear housing by just dropping the spring into one of the three positions. Picture to follow in a few hours.

how wide did you make them? That is exactly what I am doing on my 53 M38A1...

Stock is sooooo narrow! I don't want to go the full toy width either, somewhere in between..

BTW, I just ordered a set from Chris. I am the cheap ass low buck man but what the heck, I have never ordered from all pro so I'll be sure to post em when they get installed :)

Chris, outa curiousity - how far apart are those holes?

They are going on my 83' toy rear axle with cheapo disk brake conversion and under my 53' M38A1 with wrangler springs..

Chris Geiger

The holes are 1" apart on center. So you can do stock location, 1" forward or 1" back.

They sell both 2.5 and 3.0" perches, I'm using the 2.5. there real heavy duty.

I'm outboarding the springs on my flat fender and mounting the axles at 31.5" center pin to pin with waggy front wide track and a Rodeo D44 in the rear, also using a postal frame. Its a little different than building a Toyota, you have to replace everything below the body, the wheel base will be 91" Good luck

:)

Brandon

that is pretty outboarded, stock is like 25" or something!

I was going to match the front which I think is like 29.5"? up front I made the mounts stock toy axle width.

The frame I'm using is about the same as stock, just fully boxed and heavier. I thought about using toyota axles but decided to see what this jeep thing was all about. Say hello to Dennis for me:)

The only time I get each day is a couple minutes to look at it :(

I got it in my head, but with a little kid when I get home I take over till bedtime. I should get some time to work on it tomorrow though.

it's here! (http://wwwapps.ups.com/ietracking/tracking.cgi?tracknum=1ZA2R1770140780763&IATA=us&Lang=eng)

I gotta hand it to All Pro on this one, I fully support Marlin - but in all fairness I have been calling all week, left a message either sunday or monday to ship something asap since I need it this week, posting on the BBS and to this minute I still have not heard or gotten in contact with them :(

Just tellin it like it is..

When I put perches on a Toy axle for my '42 Willys MB, I set them at 29.5". the perches attached right where the axle housing necks up, so I had to grind one side of the perch bigger. You can buy perches from most any stock car parts place for 12 bucks, not worth building yourself.

Brandon
06-12-2002, 11:42 PM
chopped off the old perches and all the brackets and here it is with the new ones sitting on there to be welded at 29.5" on center. I can't believe I ordered them from all pro yesterday and they were on my porch at 9am! I needed that since I don't get time to work on my stuff much..

Looks good Brandon. Excited to see how well it performs with the mounts inboard. I'll probably kick myself for not doing the same thing. Finished welding the new front mounts and tacked the shackle mounts for my NEW All Pro springs last night. The front comes next...

Brandon

thanks, but the springs are actually outboarded at 29.5" - it's a jeep thing ;)
