: Rollcage, need your opinion.

Bought 4 sticks of 1"-3/4 seamless tube, this is what i managed to bend with it :D , I know, I suck big time at tube bending :flipoff2: .

You can see the outline of the cage in the pics (at least half of it, use your imagination for the other half :D ), how should i complete the cage? Where should i put the stinger bars, where should i gusset any opninions?? Let me know, i wan't to have some opinions of people that know what they are talking about.

I wanted to have as much legroom as possible, therefore the front leg of the hoop needed to bent inward, i tried to bend the front leg like "woody's" cage, but the bends were too close together and i got a big dent in the tube.

I saw a pic of a rollcage in a jeep, wich has a flat dash, and there were only two small bends needed to clear the dash, so i cut out the dash, welded in some sheetmetal and reused to original dash round corner to get a decent result.

First pic is woody's cage, i tried to copy.

Trying to bend the same with my pipe bender resulted in this.

Time for plan B, cut out a section of the dash, and welded in a flat plate, reused the original dash corner to get a smooth result.

Result looks nice, even if I do say so myself :D .

Clutch pedal clears the cage, I've got lot's of leg room, wich is important since my cruiser is my daily driver.

Let me know what you think, and please help me out on how to gusset and where to place stinger bars.

Hmmm, now where have I seen a bit of that design before ;)

Looks really good man. I would do "hand holds" on the front "L" bar.

On second though you might not want to use me as someone who tells you where to put supports. I tend to go overboard sometimes ;)

Looking nice DC. Very impressive bending job. I also really like what you did with the dash. It makes me want to redo my dash even more now. I would put a bar running from where the front bar touches down to the main hoop. Then I would run a bar just above the dash that ties the two front bars together. I would also use little triangle gussets to help hold the corners together. Otherwise, looks like you are on the right track. Again, very nice bending job.

Jason M: I looked at about 50+ different cages pics and found out that your design was the easiest to bend. There are no multi axis(or whatever it's called :D) bends in it. So it's a bit easier to bend with the pipe bender i rented. And I loved your design, I'm als of the opinion that when it comes to a cage you can't go overboard with adding supports! (pic's didn't work, would love to see some more pics of your cage, only pic i have is one of the cage sitting next to your truck.)

Orangefj45: I try to make as much myself and for the other parts I can get what i want in from some companies in France or otherwise straigth from toyota (lot's of euro's!!). There is some stuff, like hood latches, logo's,... that i can't find in europe, then i order from the US, or when i get lucky someone sends them to me free (big thanks for the shims Jason M!!  ). And anonther bad thing is that i live 20 km from the North Sea and tubs/frame rust faster than you can fix them

Ouibus/Fixxxxer66: below is the Jeep pic where i got my idea for the front leg, very easy to bend even with a pipe bender.

This was the first time ever, but it cost me a lot of tube, the front leg had to be bent twice and one of the rear legs too, what you can see in the pic is all that i could bent with the 4 sticks of tube i bought, but it's still cheaper than buying a cage! It really isn't that hard if you aren't too picky, the front leg doesn't follow the lines of the dash/window exactly but is good enough for me ( at least for now).

I like how it hugs the dash and is out of the way of the drivers feet...nice work!
