Today at the smog shop I noticed I had a small oil leak coming from my oil pump. Has anyone used rtv to seal it up or should I just get a new rubber gasket?

Also how much of a an affect will a turbo oil pump have? I have heard this done many times but what difference does it make?

Ryan, sounds like the o-ring seal needs to be replaced. Not to bad to do.

Cheap and easy. Do the oil seal at the front of the pump (where the pulley goes in) at the same time.

Yep.

The first bit of "wrenching" I had to do was this on my first 4Runner, ahhhhhhhh the memories :rasta:

Mine was leakin so I replaced the o ring ,Still leaked, so I took it apart agin and smeared a small amount of blue goo in o ring slot, pressed o ring into goo and reassembled and no leaks!

Thanks...

Ya it's coming from where the pump bolts up. I should have replaced it when I had it torn apart. Can I put some blue stuff in the channel where the gasket goes or no.

I used some blue for my oil pan. I put a little in each of the indents around the edge then put the gasket on then put yellow to stick it to the block. A little over kill but I would ratther have too much than not enough. It holds up pretty good once it sets but still leaks a little. I think I jsut need to retighten all the bolts.

Any info on the turbo pump? Is there a reference to it in the FAQ's. (couldn't find it). If I do the highvolume pump would an autozone one work or should I stick with Toyota?

You have to use the o-ring and the new seal. One of the bolts will need some thread sealer as well. I got a kit with all the parts for only $7 just to have on hand.

Which bolt? That may be the leak. I didn't use it on any of them. Sheet!
