: Real Pick-ups are bought not built
Rabid Rhino 08-10-2007, 03:18 PM Well actually it was given to me because they're so common over here, nobody wants them just like the long wheelbase soft tops.
They're both too long for the tight twisty stuff.
Anyway
Its finally finished.... mechanically so here are some pics

Jeff@TheQuadShop 08-11-2007, 08:39 AM LWB's and Pick-ups are like gold here in the US.
It took me about 7 years to find my LWB...

thedick4x4 08-11-2007, 03:22 PM i would really like to get one of these trucks, what countries have em? that thing is lookin good by the way
Okiyota 08-11-2007, 04:02 PM [QUOTE=Rabid Rhino;7111575]Well actually it was given to me ...[QUOTE]
I'm going to have to call BS on that!
No one in their right mind would GIVE something like that away, no matter how "un-popular" they are, everything else on there is worth something to someone!
Unless it was given to you in stock form and you did all the mods, in that case, good score, and nice truck!
Raging Rhino 08-11-2007, 05:07 PM Okiyota
No BS It was given to me but not in that condition.
It had a 2litre Ford SOHC engine & box mated up to stock running gear.
It was actually an unfinished project and the shop where it was had no room so left it outside in the hope that some one would take it.
Some guys bashed it about hence the dent in the front & a me putting on a new hood but they never took it
Nobody wanted it so I took pitty on it.
I had a Toy chassis project missing a body and knowing how much you Yanks like pickups I grudginly took it on.
Can't say I'm too dissapointed with it.
I have a euro sammi front to go on it
I think these Pick-up beds are still available on new Suzuki Carry Vans. I know A friend recently got 2 from a gau that discards them as he carries out some sort of conversion
And thats no BS
I'll post the pics as soon asI get my red star account working

if you remove the double http in the img tag, and walla, picture works.
As for the other links - I simply opened the img tag links in another browser window, found that they actually pointed to a HTML page (not an image). On those pages, I opened the image in another window, and then tag the .jpg file (not the .html file).
tdavis 08-11-2007, 11:20 PM I like the look of the pickups, I'm actually thinking of cutting up my current zuk, and building a extended cab pickup version..
But I have other more pressing projects to finish first.
mugginsmoo 08-12-2007, 04:30 AM i would really like to get one of these trucks, what countries have em? that thing is lookin good by the way
we have them over here in OZ. but they are getting rear, and all of them are in poor condition.
i've got two in the shed:D, one getting build and an original one complete with 1L motor
as well as being RHD. it would take some getting used to or you could swap in a fire-wall ot of a local samurai.
Mitch
Freshmeat 08-12-2007, 10:01 AM I'd rock a RHD Samurai pick-up HARD on teh trails.

Right on, that makes more sense. Good score, and nice truck!
Raging Rhino 08-12-2007, 04:25 PM A friend of mine liked them so much he had 2
one he bobbed the bed so it would fit on a SWB chassis

yield2me 08-12-2007, 05:29 PM Not that I am an "expert" or anything, but your coilovers appear to be upside down......
Nice ass zuk truck though.....I really like the way those things look.
Rob
Rabid Rhino 08-16-2007, 02:43 PM It all started with a mates cusom Toy pickup with a 3.5 litre Rover V8 on 44s that I knew was mechanically sound & I just wanted to do a tub swap.
But things soon spiraled out of control to a total strip down & rebuild

Rabid Rhino 08-16-2007, 02:58 PM In the early days I just wanted to keep it simple
Couldn't even be bothered to put the tyres on the right way
The coil-overs however are up the right way. They have a little control knob on them at the bottom with 32 click settings from Zero where he piston almost drops by itself to Max where nothing is moving it.
They're AVO units.... www.avouk.com who willl make any length you want and most importantly they were really cheap.
I have to take the crappy Scorpion Racing stickers off them as they have some dumb deal of acting as middle man for all offroad orders for AVO. All Scorpion did was screw up the order. Bloody middle men - whats the point except greed.

http://pic15.picturetrail.com/VOL599/9568425/17456224/272107014.jpg
Before I got my digital camera the chassis had already been fully stripped, turned upside down with the sub frame welded to it.
http://pic15.picturetrail.com/VOL599/9568425/17456224/272106552.jpg
I wasn't sure if 4 links would have cleared the sump so I went for a 3 bar A frame but as you can see, it still would have fouled the sump if the suspension wouldn't have bottomed out.
I still want to go for 4 links front & rear. All the same length incase of breakage & I just need to carry 1 spare length/trailing arm.

http://pic15.picturetrail.com/VOL599/9568425/17456224/272106555.jpg
That was initially 28" ground clearence at the lowest point of the centre of the subframe
http://pic15.picturetrail.com/VOL599/9568425/17456224/272106578.jpg
holy, that looks phenominal!
what size of tire is that? you mentioned the donor had 44's...

do you mind posting up the specs on the avo coil-overs you run? also how cheap?? could be just the thing i'm after
nice rig by the way, i haven't seen many lwb pick-ups about they seem quite rare in the west
Rabid Rhino 08-23-2007, 01:41 PM Slack D
Coilovers
They're 13" travel.
I asked for 14" but they have a built in bumpstop..... A 2" rubber bushing on the piston which won't compress fully so I say 13"
They cost me about £150 each that's about $300 at current rates but they'd have been cheaper if I'd gone direct to AVO instead of the middleman Scorpion Racing.
Have I mentioned how much those guys are a con & screw up the order ?
Insist on dealing direct with AVO.
SJ-X
The tyres are 39s
Joe
Rabid Rhino 08-23-2007, 02:10 PM Once the transmission was in it was just a case of bolting on the body
The little sammi next to it was having a Ford V6 put into it
http://pic15.picturetrail.com/VOL599/9568425/17456224/272105074.jpg
I like these next 3 pics. It shows the stable where the vehicle was built

http://pic15.picturetrail.com/VOL599/9568425/17456224/272105072.jpg
Thats Bigfoot 17 shortly after it was built. You Yanks only have upto Bigfoot 16. I kind of feel safe in the knowledge that the guy who built mine is qualified enough to build Bigfoot 17
With the Bed on the back it was time to fit the Spare
The Chassis was cut back to allow the tyres to clear on full bump.
http://pic15.picturetrail.com/VOL599/9568425/17456224/272104005.jpg
The Kicker bars bolt through to the chassis
http://pic15.picturetrail.com/VOL599/9568425/17456224/272103996.jpg
I'm still tempted to raise the bed just 1 more inch although the lines wont flow from the cab to the bed.
