I'm in the process of troubleshooting my brother's truck, which is starting on the cold injector, but stops running after a couple of seconds. We have swapped the ECU, the distrubter, fuel pump, with out any change. If I spray starting fluid into the intake, it stays running. Anyone else got anything to suggest that we look into, that would cause this problem.

Jump B+ and Fp in the check connector if it stays running check circuit opening relay ,fuel pump relay or look for open in the harness.....

Check the AFM and the wires going to it.

Get a factory wiring manual. In the manual you can see all of the systems that need power to function. AFM, injector resistor, fuel pump, and coil. The computer gets hooked up to power 3 different ways, and all of them need power. Once you have the manual in front of you then you can see whats getting power with a voltmeter.

this may seem like the dumbass answer but try the filter-maybe it cant keep pressure. i dunno, it worked for me with a somewhat similar prob. also, i dont trust the manual for wiring anymore, cause almost nothing in my truck matches the manual-and yes i know what the hell i'm doing w/ wiring. you might have better luck.

Now if I could just get my cheap scate brother to get a FSM! He is just using my chilton.
sounds like fuel delivery.
also you can get JUST the wiring manual for like 30 bones. and so far it is like 98% correct. it did come from the factory after all.
check e bay for the manuals too, cheap.
the chiltons suck balls...cuz they do, in fact suck balls.
that is the WORST excuse for help i have ever seen.

I think that Arnold is right. Sounds to me like its the AFM. When I was done rebuilding my 22re, it would start right up, rev to 1500 rpm, and then die. I spent days tracing all sorts of wires and vacuum hoses and such. Finally I checked the AFM. I did have it connected, but when I opened it up, there was one little prong that was broke off. I bent it down and made it make contact, havent had a problem since!
Funny how one little wire can make the whole engine die!!
Hope this helps.
Oh yeah, I dont know how you can "check" the AFM persay, but its the little black thing on top of the air intake box, above the filter. Make sure that the plug has a good connection. Open it by cutting the black silicone around the square looking thing on top.
You can find a pic of it if you do a search.
