: Abba's TTC Exp.

O.K. Heres my take on my TTC exp. I'm going to run down my take on each event.

Show and Shine: I did not know when this event took place, I placed 5th in this event.

Engineering: I placed 3rd in this event. I was not expecting such a good score on this, yet I am happy I did. I was not able to complete alot of the work I wanted to do on my rig.

Ride and Drive: 2nd is what I placed in this event. I figured I would do well on this event due to the facts that I have carpet, a bench seat in the front, a nice stereo and a rear seat. 5 people can ride in my Scout with seatbelts. Having auto trans helped the smoothness of the ride.

Accelration: I placed 6th in this event. There were some big motors in this years TTC. I ran this event in low because it was only an 8th of a mile. I figured that would help. I was not abel to get my nitros installed due to bad timing. Never the less I was happy with my run.

Braking: 10th ??? I had brand new one ton brakes on my rig. I can't really say why I placed 10th in this event, but thats what I got.

Tow Test: 3rd is what I got in this event. I was a little worried my turbo 350 trans would not hold up in this event. We figured we should run low air pressure, I ran it at 5 pounds. It worked well but everyone said I should have run higher pressure. I was pleased with third.

Frame Twister: This was a fun event. I placed 7th. I was not prepared. The plan was as soon as we got stuck we were to jump out and winch, which we did. The winch was hard to get out but my co driver did not give up, he gave it all he had and hooked us up. We winched out smoothly and finished.

Mud Pit: I placed 7th as well in the mud pit. What can I say I just got stuck in the mud in the pit. (he he ha ha)

Mini Rubicon: I placed 6th in this event. I went first in this event, which turned out to be a disadvantage to me. I was 6 min into it and about 10 feet from the end when we got hung up on a 3 big rocks. This was also when our brains shut down. (he he) We broke a front drive shaft the winch would not pull us out and the jack was to short. I was surprized we even placed 6th.

Hill Climb: Dead last, thats what I got. I was first to go up the hill. I had an unexpected fuel problem. We thought the Scout was out of fuel but it had 3 quarters of a tank. The problem turned out to be a broken fuel line. I went up the hill but I went out of turn and it was shitin and fartin all the way up the hill but we made it. We figured out the problem the next day and fixed it.
We had an on board camera but you won't here any audio
on us.

Obstacle Course: 5th is what I placed in this event. This was also a fun event for me. I was 10th in line to go in this event. I seen most of the rigs run this coarse before I had my turn. The last hill out to finish line was hairy. And the mud hole before the hill out was getting deep. When my turn came up I was hoping to let the scout run hard but it did some more sputtering up the hills. All in all I did well. I also ran over 2 cones coming up the hill at the end of the coarse which didn't help my score.

Tank Trap: 8th is what I got in the Tank Trap. I was 10th to run in this event. Being last to run this event we were ready, at least we thought we were. We winched up the first burm to the first water hole. We went through the first water hole without getting a drop of water in the Scout. The second water hole we also winched out of. The rear end snapped after we came out of the second water hole. The pinion was shooting straight up in the air. After we snapped the axel we had 27 min. left. We kicked it out of 4 wheel drive to front wheel drive and broke out the winch. Soon after that we layed it on its side. I could not believe that it was capable on running on its side for that long. By using the winch and steering we managed to get it back on all 4's. We ruined the driver side fender and door. We kept winching until we got to hole # 3. As we were winching up to hole # 3 the winch cable snapped. After the winch cable snapped they called time. We gave it our best shot with what we had left to work with. I won most difficult extration in the Tank Trap.

After this TTC I know now what my Scout is capable of doing. Yet there is always room for improvement. The damage will be repaired before I hit the trail again.

All the competetors were fun to be around. Everyone was helpfull to each other and supportive of each other. It was the ultiment 4 wheel drive experience.

The staff at Four Wheeler Mag. are the greastest people you'll ever meet. The judges were a bunch of cool guys who love to wheel just like you and I.

Thats my take.

I've been thinkin, I don't know where I really ended up in the tank trap when I timed out. My co-driver Bob and I were talkin about it today and we think we ended up in the last hole of last years tank trap. If anyone knows, let me know.

Abba,

What happened to your rear d60? Did the spot welds break? Damn, who would have foreseen that.

Also, I was wondering how much lift you needed to run the 44's? Are you using 4 inch lift springs for your spring over, or do you have more lift then that? I'm really interested in your truck since you have the large fender cutouts. :) :) :)

The lift is nothing special, I try to keep it as low as possible with thd biggest tires that will fit. Its not a lift kit. Did you notice I placed 3rd in engineering. :D :D :D

That's tough luck that the housing broke. :( You must'a been standing on that go pedal. :)

I know you don't have a lift kit. Hehehe. That's funny. I'll have to ask the girl at autozone for the lift kit to fit 44's on a Scout. ;)

I'm with you I don't like excessive lift. I'm looking at running the biggest tires possible with just a SOA, it's about 7 inches of lift. If Tom Mandera can run 36's with a 4 inch lift kit and cut fenders I should be able to run 38's easy.

I was just guessing that you're using arched springs on a SOA. 4 inch arched springs and a spring over is around 10-11 inches of total lift. It doesn't seem possible that 44's would work with only 11 inches of total lift, but those cutout fenders you've got are huge. That why I asked.

Yes, I noticed the 3rd in Engineering. You should be really proud of that. You've probably got coil overs a 1/4 elliptical or something crazy and here I'm talking a basic spring over. :)

I don't have coil overs. I'm not joking when I say its all recking yard. I'm as low budget as I can be, although I did have to spend on spare parts for TTC.

Sounds like you did pretty damn well just caught a little bad luck. damn good thing you had those silly fab front cage tubes :D I can't imagine what would happen if you didn't. maybe 10th place :D

good job Abba. I think you did a great job taking that full body bastard in there and getting it!
