: Using 4 cylinder gears into V6 housing?

I'm trying to get some confirmation on where the extra spacer needs to go when you install a 4 cylinder gear set into a V6 housing.
I did a search and found that some mention a pinion spacer and some a ring gear spacer. Can you do one or the other?
Does spacing the pinion towards the ring gear work? If so, any idea by how much?
Reason I ask this is that I just blew the 4.30 ring gear in the front E-locker installed in my 85 4-Runner. I guess it just didn't like the 350 chev, TH350, double low (toy & dana 300 t-cases), front drive only and 37 boggers at 7 psi combo.
Anyway, I have two spare sets of 4.30 4 cylinder gears, but no v6 sets.
Thanks for the help.

Yes you can put the 4Cyl gears into a V6 housing. You will need a pinion shim to make it work. It's actually such a common swap that all of the setup kits I have seen include the shim.

Ring gear shims are not used on Toyota diffs.

It goes were the other pinion shims go. The spacer/shim is .115" thick.

try starting with the .115 spacer and somewhere around .75 on the pinion to start.........but if you could find someone to trade you a set of v6 gears you would be alot better off........they seem to hold up a little better.:)
