need to know what you guys are running. did a search, but not happy. i can see the 4:88's for strength, but the 5:29's make it going down the highway so much better. crawl on the trail is not that noticable between the 2. i do drive it daily and the 22re is a bit tired, but still churns along, overdirve from the 5 speed is useless.

I run 4.88s and 37 SSRs but my 22RE is "slightly" built and not the slightest bit tired :D I can do 75+ MPH in fifth and 4th will take me to 95 MPH which is probably like 100 since my speedo is off with that gearing. Hills is where the undergearing will kill you, 55 MPH in third up the steep grades.
I'm sure you'll be way happier with 5.29s, I would be because I'm sure I can go faster with 5.29s :D :D I haven't seen in person anyone break quality 5.29 gears. Just stay away from Geniune gears ;)

5.29's
Your gonna eventually end up getting even bigger tires than 37's.
I ran 5.29's with 33's. It was over geared.
I run 5.29's with 35's. It's pretty good. My 22RE is tired.
I'll will run 5.29's with 38's, 39's, .....

Another vote for 5.29's. My motor is bone stock but in good shape. I live in the hills and couldn't imagine chugging up the grades w/ 4.88's.

thanks for the responses. looks like i will be ditching the 4:88's i currently am running in place of the 5;29/5:38 combo. the mention of going to bigger tires is true. already thinking about the 38 14.50's.
If an engine swap is a possible future item, then I would go 4.88's. If you plan to stay with the 22re, then 5.29 would be the way to go.
