So i saw a ZUK sitting in the driveway of this house with out of date tags... Left a note on the door and the guy calls back... Says its mine if i come get it... The body is rusty, frame is gonna be fine, and get this... IT runs!!! Don't know the year yet... Its a Samruai JX, whatever that means, any ideas? It wouldn't pass inspection because of foggy windows in the soft top, so he parked it and doesn't wanna put any $ in it... New brakes, rebuilt 5 spd, 1.3 (Carbed? FI? Dunno yet), new cat and muffler and new gas tanks... Its gonna need new floor pans for sure to be wheelable...

Heres my questions...

Does anyone make a reproduction floor kit? I could build one im sure, but I wanna be able to wheel soon...

What does the JX designation mean?

I already have toy axles sitting at home, and a JD2 bender to use as well... Finally got a project, and i can drive it home for free, I go to get it on Friday, Ill try to get some pics...

Rocky road supposedly has poly tubs on the way eventually.

JX = fancy stickers, interior, seats etc.

pre90 = carb, 90 on = FI.

Welcome to the Zuk world :flipoff2:

Yeah, so far the plan is to tube the rear behind the seats, gotta keep it somewhat street worthy since I would like to drive it to the trails... Never thought of the Aluminum for the floors, that I like, nice and light... I go to get it today hopefully... Ill find out what year and such then, didn't wanna ask to much on the phone abd be a nuisance, because after all, this thing is free!!!

Update:::

Well, I went to go get it today, it runs like a dream, and has a bit more power than some of the other Zuk's I have test driven.... It is an 89, So I just missed the FI... Oh well... Its not as rusty as I thought, but i Still plan to tube out the rear of it... It will also be needed some power steering, guess its time to start doing some searching...

Thanks for the help... Hugh

It wouldn't pass inspection because of foggy windows...
Are you shittin' me!??!:eek:
Damn, it must suck to live down there! We have these damn farmers that drive tractors to work or up and down main street because " I just happened to be in it when I remembered I needed something at the store..." You wouldn't believe the shiat you can do in the midwest! A buddy of mine came up to do some wheelin' and it was just easier for him to drive his buggy to each trail than to put it back on a trailer each time. We got pulled over because the HP officer thought his rig was on fire(he had just laid it over). He thought he was going to get nailed for the beadlocks, the fully hydro'd steering and the open headers(how annoying). The cop looked at the steering and said "Hey! That's a good idea! Steal that from the farmers?"
It's also OK up here to race as long as you say "I'm just testing out the new carb for the races on Saturday."

UH this may sound sTuPiD but ummmmm can't you just take the top off durring the inspection:question: I mean it IS a soft top. Is there a law against soft tops or something:confused:

How far are you from Yankton? We got a big(ish) club trail day on the 22 and 23 of this month. Gonna chop some trees down for the land owner, then take all of those annoying boulders out of his pasture and dump them in the trail. How nice of us! C'mon down!

I'm not sure how far it is, but I'm going to a trail ride event with my club that weekend, in Chetek, WI. :D Thanks for the invite!

Yeah, I thought the same bit about the top, but figured id keep my mouth shut since i was getting a free rig outta the deal... I'll probably go get it registered and inspected tommorrow with its new "Bikini" top aka cut down full top... Im pretty sure he didn't wanna take the chance of taking it off anyhow, as the windows cracked and fell into a million pieces when I took the top off...
