I love to see people restoring (refurbishing) rare rigs like that:) How many 45 Wagons do we have left in the US, less than 300? Really nice to see that one won't be left to rot out behind someons barn;)

Good work:D

That is some lame-ass javascript. Click on the thumbnail to see the big pic, then turn off javascript in your browser, right-click-save, then turn javascript back on.

Presto! (Don't know my own strength.)

Question: does that 45 have spring-over? I'm building a 45 wagon with Cummins 6AT3.4 and NV4500, trying to avoid SOA. I'm going to run Michelin 9.00R16 XZLs (36X10"). Front springs are 4" Skyjackers, rear 2.5" lift with 3" shackles (total 4" lift). Will that be enough to clear narrow 36s?

Charles, Is that your 45 wagon that's been in Mark Whatley's shop for the last year? From the parts I've seen, that's gonna be one beefy rig!

Charles,

The only reason to avoid a Spring-Over is because you have never had/ridden in one that was properly set-up!

Man, if stability is a question, those outboad springs and FJ-60 axles should do the trick big time!

here'a few answres for you guys:

the motor mounts are flush with the top of the frame, get a closer look at the pic and you'll see.

there are probably less than 100 wagons left in the USA, at least 8 of them should be at the 45 run in late summer. are you gonna be there?

nolen: it's not that my wagon is photo-shy, i just got my digital camera about a year ago and just bought a scanner this weekend, so be patient my dear!:flipoff2:

simon's shop is located in los angeles CA, a part of town called san dimas. at the northern end. 909-599-9559

simon will be e-mailing me some more shots this week including the spring hangers, which i will post as soon as i get them.:D

>Question: does that 45 have spring-over?

Yes. On FJ60 axles.

>Front springs are 4" Skyjackers, rear 2.5" lift with 3" shackles
>(total 4" lift). Will that be enough to clear narrow 36s?

No. Not without tubbing the rear inner fenders.

Here's my side of the story: I noticed a landcruiser sticking out of a shed/barn in Woodside, down the street from a buddy's house. I finally hopped the fence one day, and took a closer look, holy crap, 4 doors! What the hell?! After that, every time I drove past that place, i craned my neck to see if it was still there, rotting away. One day, a bunch of rigs were parked there, so I stopped, introduced myself, and met some guy name Georg (see OrangeFJ45). The 45 waggie was his "parts" truck, a back-up of sorts. Couple years later, he goes and gets married and buys a house, and I get to buy the beater 45 in the barn.

At the same time, our friend Simon starts Faultline Fab (www.faultlinefab.com soon to be updated, stay tuned), and since few can do finer work, the truck got shipped down to SoCal.

Phase I, if you want to call it that, is to get the truck drivable, wheelable. It came with a pair of FJ60 axles, SM420/J30. I "borrowed" a small block chevy out of my buddy Tom's 45 Wagon (a Purple and White 45 wagon from Oklahoma, that sits on '77 Bronco axles with coils in front... he wanted a TBI, I got the old motor). Simon has done incredible work, second to done. This thing was last registered/driven around 1980... and soon it will be resurected thanks to Faultline. THe front springs were outboarded to match the wider FJ60 axles. The steering is all one-ton stuff. The entire truck is re-wired. When its done, it will be wheelable and comfortable to drive on the road. and its darn close to being ready.

Phase II will be a Cummins 6A3.4T mated to an H55f with mark's crawler gears in the splitcase, via an old-skool plate adapter for 465 bellhousings (the Cummins comes with a 465).

Phase III, if we ever get that far: paint, interior, a/c etc.

This thing ain't going to be babied. Fordyce/Dusy/Rubicon/Moab. I know this is gonna piss off some purists who'd like to see all 45's be restored... But I like to wheel. And as far as I know, no one has taken a 45 Waggie on the "fun" trails.

stay-tuned.

DAmn, I can't believe you wheel that thing. I mean talk about a rare cruiser. I remember when you brought it up to Placerville on that snow run with Chris's Jeep. Everyone was flipping about you wheeling it. Talk about a nice cruiser to beat on, but to each their own

Simon is doing some NICE work in those pics. I gotta stop by next time I am in the area.

I know this is kinda late... not sure if I sent ya any of the 3.4 6AT pics.. here is a link courtesy of "Dieselcruiserhead" from PBB.

BTW.. the 6AT needs a 5 speed if your making a DD out of it IMHO.

FWIW,
There is guy up here who bought this cruiser (http://www.outbacklandcruisers.com/picts/45wagbody.jpg) who is doing a similar project. I thought it was pretty cool, being a "newbie" I hadn't seen picts of your truck yet George. He's doing a spring over, 36" Boggers too, and ironically enough it's orange already! Talk about a coincidence! :goofball:

His last FJ40 was large and orange, huge with airbags. Locals might have seen it at TLCAS for a little while.

If I get some picts I'll post 'em. Truck was literally 100% apart only a few months ago so I'd expect a few years before anything comes of it. When I worked at outback (http://www.outbacklandcruisers.com)there were several FJ45s, some of which are still on the site. Not sure about the where abouts of the trucks though these days.
