: How many degrees are too many?

Problems with the rear drive shaft on my 85 blazer. I keep pinching the u-joint retaining straps on my 14FF bolt. They are getting pinched on crompresion, I put new springs in the back and they are much more flexy than the last ones. I want to use shims to angle the axle down but the t-case side u-joint is already at about 18 degrees. I cant drop the tranny cross member any more because my front CV already rubs the cross member when the passenger side front droops. I am running the 1350 u-joints in the back. How many degrees is too much for the t-case side u-joint?

Get 1410's, they will alow more angularity. Or clearance the yoke, Or rotate the spring perches on the axle, or do a shackle reversal. Build a good traction bar to minimise axle wrap. A friend of mine went from 38's to 44's and snapped the u-joint the first time he stepped on the go pedal because of spring wrap.

I am going to clearance the yoke and rotate the spring pads a little also, but how many degrees can I run the t-case side u-joint @ with out any overheating/breakage problems? Pinching is not a problem with the t-case side u-joint.
