: yj SOA
1tonbronco 08-13-2007, 03:06 PM I want to put 35's on my yj with a SOA. My question is what spring should i use ?iI know the waggy and RE springs r strong. I just think the waggy springs and RE 1.5 springs will be to much lift, or will it for 35's? i 'll be putting tube fenders on this jeep, i dont want to have a big gapp between the tire and fender.
wranglerwilson 08-13-2007, 03:28 PM Alcans, weigh your vechile, then just the rear, give Alcan the info & tell them how much lift you want. They are pricey but they dont brake. With tube fenders you will have some gap. (I run 36x13.50 with PS tube fenders.
1tonbronco 08-13-2007, 03:35 PM r u runing alcans
jeepercoleman 08-14-2007, 09:19 AM Why don't you just run stock wrangler springs, 35's will fit fine, I also ran 1.5 RE with 35's for a while, they flex great.

wranglerwilson 08-14-2007, 09:41 AM Yes I have ran Alcans for 4 years.Depends how hard you wheel how long stock springs will last.
moneypit94 08-14-2007, 12:59 PM all depends on money. i have the stock YJ springs on mine still n love them. i priced alcan's not too long ago and they wanted like 200-250 a spring. i had plenty of clearance but had trouble runnin stock flares. looked wierd. went with TJ flares n love it. PM me if u have any other questions

1tonbronco 08-14-2007, 03:43 PM how easy is it to bend yj springs?
vbuholzer 08-15-2007, 08:36 AM i am finishing up a SOA on my YJ, using waggy springs front and rear.. they flex great and i don't see these lasting very long because they will go into a negative arch. i also have 2" body lift. clears 35's with lots of room.
how long your springs last depends on how you wheel. if your SOA and no axle wrap bar then you probly changing leafs out once a year if not more.

resqme 08-15-2007, 08:44 AM Find two sets of stock YJ springs and double up the main leaf. They will be relatively flat but not start sagging and go negative like a stock YJ spring will.
Waggy and 1.5 springs will raise your COG unnecessarily for 35's, IMO.
SlowMo 08-15-2007, 09:56 AM I've been running the RE 1.5" SOA springs for a little over a year now. They work great with my 35's. Highly recommend them. I also had to put on a 1" body lift to clear some stuff. Even with that my COG is not too bad, though I do need to take it easy on off camber stuff.
ROXROES 08-15-2007, 12:58 PM My buddy has been running the 2" RE springs on his SOA YJ w/ 36's for 2 years now. He speaks very highly of the RE springs flex and durability, since he seems to have a talent for f'n them up...........
1tonbronco 08-15-2007, 03:33 PM Vbuholzer are those the 7 leaf waggy springs or 5 leafs?
xrayjeeper83 08-15-2007, 04:27 PM Dont waggy springs strech your wheel base though?
1tonbronco 08-15-2007, 05:18 PM yes,like 2 inches
kwrangln 08-15-2007, 06:05 PM Stock YJ springs with an added main leaf, no body lift, 35's. Got about 6 years and a bunch of miles out of the first set, properly set bumpstops and a wrap bar are mandatory or they will die quickly.

With 2.5" backspaced wheels had some interference with the back of the front fender, TJ flares would have helped.

My new YJ has Alcan's and they are worth the dime.
vbuholzer 08-15-2007, 06:52 PM the rear pack is the 7 leaf, the front 5. i have some extra YJ leaf packs that i will be taking apart and adding to the front leafs.
1tonbronco 08-15-2007, 07:06 PM is the main leaf the leaf that bolts to the shackle?or the one under it
kwrangln 08-15-2007, 07:22 PM The main leaf is the one with eyes that bolt to the frame and shackle. The term "added main leaf" comes from making hybrid YJ packs by using an extra set of springs, taking the main leafs and cutting the eyes off of them to add as a second leaf in the pack. I got the best results from cutting the eyes as close to the ends as possible so that the added main leaf actually terminated under the eyes of the main leaf adding support all the way to the ends. Also round the cuts and taper the ends, shape plays an important part in leaf spring design and ride quality.
Dont make the mistake of cutting off or opening up the leaf spring clamps. While they have to be opened up to add a leaf, dont leave em that way. The clamps will help to keep from kinking main leafs as the suspension droops. Best bet is to straighten the spring clamps and drill em for 1/4" bolts. That will allow for max travel, but still support things.
If you look close at this pic you can see what I mean about the bolts. You can also see how I shaped the end of the added leaf, as well as installing a factory teflon pad.

1tonbronco 08-15-2007, 07:34 PM did not know that hmmmm
1tonbronco 08-19-2007, 02:10 PM what is COG
resqme 08-19-2007, 02:30 PM center of gravity
blerCA 08-19-2007, 11:12 PM I've had a set of RE 1.5" SOA 6 leaf springs sitting in my garage for 2 months ready to go in. Still gathering parts n such. I went with those cause I couldn't afford alcan, but also because everyone recommended them. 120 as opposed to 250. x4. Thats a lot.
ryde307 08-21-2007, 09:14 PM i am pretty new to wheeling so please dont be to harsh but i just bought my friends yj with spring over and 33's my plan is to switch to full size dana 60's and with spring over and RE 1.5" springs will have cut rear fenders and flat fronts hope to run 38 at minimum am I close to a good set up and will it work?have a few friends that know alot and good fab skills.
MEANGREENCJ7 08-22-2007, 03:26 PM I run a Scrambler, dana 60's, with 1.5" RE SOA, no body lift, TJ flares, and 39.5 Boggers.
