Need some help on this guys. I'm torn between a Rusty's 4" kit or a RE 4.5 Extreme Duty or Standard Duty. It's alot cheaper to go with Rusty's.

Spring it over and get the rubicon express spring-over leaves. It's fairly cheap and makes a big jeep. I did it for a buddy and it cost him under 1000 with the S.Y.E. kit installed at a 4x4 shop. You would need a welder and a little welding know how to put on the new perches but thats about it.

Yeah, thought about the spring over, but it's just too big for this stage of the rig. With a spring over I'd wanna run bigger meats then I'd need bigger axles, and then, and then, and then. Snowball effect, not what I want to get into right now.

I've got the Rusty's 4" SUA lift on my YJ and like it fine. Realize up front that you're getting a $500 lift so don't expect all the frills of an RE kit. That said, the components that you do get are of decent quality. If I had it to do over again, I'd probably just buy their springs and piece the rest together.

The rusty's shocks are the same cheap shocks that come with most other cheap lifts. Mine didn't last very long.

I'd add a set of sway bar disconnects. They're relatively cheap and make a huge difference in the road/trail usability of the vehicle.

The pinion wedges/shims for the rear axle are absolute trash. They're cheap cast AL and of the 2 Rusty's Lifts I installed, both set of shims didn't make it out of the driveway. Go straight to steel shims. For that matter, it's best to get the rear axle mocked in and measure for exactly how much shim you're going to need, then, call RE. They stock the steel shims and ship them with center pins.

I did use the Rusty's t-case drop (until I got to an SYE) and track bar brackets.

Hope that helps.

Finally, what I wanted to hear, thanks. How do those Rustys springs flex?

They're 4" SUA springs. They flex like chit. You're not going to find an SUA spring, as short as YJ springs are, that flex worth a damn. It's just the nature of the beast. You can do things to help them, like better shackles and removing leaves, but, the bottom line is, if you want flex, go SOA, if you want a little more tire clearance and a stable predictable, albeit harsher, ride, go SUA.

All that being said, to quote Derek West, flex is over-rated when you have lockers.
