I've currently got my wheel base at 89"s on my 79 CJ5. but want 105"s which means my rear needs to go back an additional 16"s along w/the 4.5"s that its already got from the offset center pins. I plan on stretching the frame in the rear and relocating the foward spring mounts accordingly. Am I nutz for stretching the frame this far? front is foward about 1-1.5"s and can't move it foward any more in its current state. seems like it'd be an awesome new place to strap a cooler!!
thanks

I made the front section of the frame. 16" longer, 10" longer tub.

There was a TOTW on this..look it up

thanks for the pic. I've already read that link several times. no one from there seems to have stretched the rear frame only that far.
thanks

Among other things, I stretched the middle, but not just the back. Works pretty well imho.

dude your way to crazy for me. go long, you'll never look back. i like blazin's idea but i think some kind of tool/storage box would be cool.

i say go for it. i cut and lengthened my 5 in the middle. body and frame. if i were to do it again i'd do it your way. there is just too much sheetmetal and work. now that mine has been rolled several times i can't just slap another tub on it. just my op.

I agree stretch the rear, seems like it would be hell out a lot easier then in the middle.

My freind did his TJ in the middle, man what a Pain in the ass.

Here are a few pics:

Stretching the back would :nuke: your departure angle. If you stretch the middle you won't loos that at all....

What? You cut the back of the fenders out and stretch that beetch. You'll end up with a better departure angle.

The big thing with stretching the middle and front (and why thats where Im stretching my 5) is that the fronts easy, especially on a pre-amc cj. You just get a longer hood :D the middle, well I get extra legroom that way.

just the front doesn't help the climbing ability. i think it needs to be a balanced job or you lose all the advantage you gain from the increase in wheelbase.

-Justin uhhm, I believe they are talking about wheel base not body extensions...
